About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

April 11: Alpine, TX – Day of Rest
from biketernity.blogspot.com
A well deserved day of rest for the group. The motel is great with clean rooms and hard beds. I prepared eggs to order for breakfast at 8:30 AM and Dave and I were on the cooking crew for the evening. We like easy so dinner would be pasta shells, sauce, and salad with cookies for dessert. I failed to mention that last night we had order in pizza for dinner as we arrived at the motel at 6:30 pm.

With a few extra minutes – April 11th Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on April 11, 2011 by Rick AnkrumApril 11, 2011

With a few extra minutes thanks to a later sunset and clear skies I was able to ride almost 21 miles this evening. If I had left at my usual time of 6:22 instead of 6:29 I should have made it over 21 miles. A front passed through Houston mid-morning clearing the skies of clouds and leaving a clear sky with low 80’s temperatures. When I left on my ride it was 82 degrees and a light breeze. I wore another kinda new pair of shorts that I bought 3 or 4 years ago but never took out of the package. I am on this replacement mode so I will have all of my old shorts out of service by Wednesday when I ride next. Also I wore my red Pearl Izumi Select Gel gloves. They were as good as the blue pair I wore yesterday as no surprise.

The evening ride was smooth with a nice tail breeze heading south and not much headwind coming back. My legs were not complaining from the last two days of riding but I will take tomorrow off to not over do it. I did see two other riders out. My route will expand in the coming days as the daylight increases in the evening.

April mileage update:

  • April miles 246.25
  • YTD miles 1072.92
