About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

More Wind Like Yesterday’s Ride – April 10th Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on April 10, 2011 by Rick AnkrumApril 10, 2011

The wind was just as strong for today’s ride as it was for yesterday’s. I did not get to ride at the time I usually do on Sunday so I was late and the wind had time to get gusty. I was able to ride at a fast pace, at least for me, when I was heading out but once I made the turn to head back home I had to drop a gear and even then my speed was 12 to 13 mph at times. Partly cloudy skies and 83 degrees made for a great ride. Sun screen was in order. I did not see any other riders.

New equipment I tried out today: new bike shorts from Voler and new Pearl Izumi gloves. The shorts are a little lighter fabric than what I have been using; 7.5 oz. versus 8.0 oz. The fit was good and the seat padding was the right thickness and not too large to bunch in places it should not. The Pearl Izumi Select Gel gloves are size large even though according to the chart I could wear a medium. I like a looser fitting glove. The padding is gel and was just enough to do the job. A neat feature I am still getting used to is a removal tab to help get the gloves off. I bought these yesterday at Sun & Ski Sports because they had a sale and I was looking for new gloves to replace my two year old ones. So far the shorts and gloves look like they are winners.

April mileage update:

  • April miles 225.67
  • Miles this week (Monday – Sunday) 146.24
  • YTD miles 1052.34
