About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Cyclist launches helmet drive after accident

NICOLE LESSIN | www.taylorpress.net

Taking one look at the gaping hole in the helmet she wore after being injured and dragged by a car at Third and Main streets June 14, cyclist Carla Hoffman knew what she had to do.

“The moment I saw my helmet after the accident, I knew I wanted to start a program to inform kids about the importance of helmets,” she said in an online post. “I’m starting out by having a helmet drive to pass out helmets to kids going back to school.”

To participate in “Carla’s Cycling Safety Club Helmet Drive,” community members are invited to drop off new youth bike helmets or purchase them at Taylor Bike Co. at 204 N. Main St., through Aug. 6. …

Track Team Encounter, Other Cyclists, And Some Chirping

Texbiker.net Posted on August 3, 2024 by Rick AnkrumAugust 3, 2024

Early start for the bike ride with wheels rolling at 7:56 AM. The goal was to start before 8 AM so that I would finish before the heat and to see other cyclists. Riding my Cervelo Caledonia bike I chose the Atascocita – Huffman – Walden route. I’ve been adding distance to each ride this week to build my fitness back up and this was the longest ride at 35.01 miles. This brought my week total to 112 road miles and 124 overall miles including a Zwift ride on Monday. As I rode along Kingwood Drive a bunch of high school girls ran the opposite direction. I think they were on the Kingwood High School track team. Later I saw other cyclists on Atascocita Shores Drive, Fairlake Lane, Old Atascocita Road, and FM1960. My pedaling is getting stronger and my arm muscles didn’t hurt as much. I finished at 10:48 AM. The wind was light and the temperature was almost to 90. The front disc on the Cervelo makes a chirping sound so I need to adjust the caliper before the next ride. You can probably hear it in the video.

Video: Injured bicyclist rescued on hiking trail near Lake Texoma

By Garrett Stringfellow | www.kxii.com

SHERWOOD SHORES, Texas (KXII) – On Saturday, a man was rescued from the Cross Timbers Hiking Trail on Lake Texoma after he was injured in a bicycle accident.

“He reported he was injured in his hip and wasn’t able to get up,” Sherwood Shores Volunteer Fire Chief Tim Bilderback said. “Fortunately, we were able to retrieve coordinates from the county of his phone, so we knew exactly where he was on a map.”

Even though they knew where he was, Bilderback says that spot on the trail is hard to access.

“It’s a 13.6 mile long trail,” he said. “It’s very narrow … the best way is to come in by boat so that’s why we partnered with Tow Boat US to take us in.”

While it took half an hour to find him, that actually ended up being the easy part.

“We were able to get him on …

Jake Howarth | www.yukon-news.com

Cyclists on three routes converged in Whitehorse prior to riding to the Alaska border together

Seventy-five Texans cycled through Whitehorse on July 25 on a 4,000-mile (6,437-kilometre) journey to raise funds for cancer research.

Students from the University of Texas at Austin embarked on a 70-day ride from Austin, Texas, to Anchorage, Alaska. Organized by the Texas 4000 for Cancer program, the event is touted by organizers as “the world’s longest annual charity bike ride.”

Three teams of 25 cyclists pedalled across the United States, starting from Texas. They journeyed through the desert of the American Southwest, traversed the Rocky Mountains, and crossed the Ozark Mountains.

All three teams met at …
