About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

A lot has been happening since… – March 27th Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on March 27, 2011 by Rick AnkrumMarch 27, 2011

A lot has been happening since my last ride on March 19. After my dog crash I needed a few days to heal and my wife had major surgery. So my riding time has been overcome by taking care of my wife. No regrets in taking the time off from riding though. She is worth every second of my time.

Now that I am able to ride I hit the road today but I was limited in time. My niece had a Special Olympics cycling practice so I had to speed along on my ride. March temperatures have been above normal lately so I was able to pare down on my apparel but increase my sun screen. It was 80 degrees, overcast skies and a 10 mph south breeze. I was able to try out my new Garmin Edge 500 GPS bike computer. It did good but I need to adjust the screen display data fields and stop the auto scroll. It seemed that whatever information I wanted to see the screen had scrolled to another one.

It was good to get back on the bike and my road rash is in the later stages of healing. My right knee will have a generous patch of altered skin and my right elbow will have a small patch.

March mileage update:

  • March miles 261.40
  • YTD miles 786.58
