About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Goatneck Bike Ride – Cleburne, TX

Texbiker.net Posted on March 23, 2011 by Rick AnkrumMarch 23, 2011

24th Annual Goatneck Bike Ride
Start: Saturday, July 30, 2011 @ 7:30 AM
Cleburne High School
1501 Harlin Dr.   Cleburne, TX
Online Registration
Fees
$25 on or before July 15th, then $30 after July 15. Family Fee:Family of 4 or more $20 on or before July 15 and $25 after July 15th

The Goatneck Bike ride is a rolling hill course which averages around 35 feet per mile of climbing.  Click on the Directions tab and go to the Routes layout page for (69.5, 41, & 27) that provides elevation maps. The roads are well maintained country roads with little traffic. The prevailing winds during this time of year are from the southwest, which provides a tail wind for the last portion of the ride coming into the finish!  We provide rest stops every 8-9 miles on all courses.

Last year we had close to 2,500 riders.  We provide showers at the finish in the Cleburne High School basketball locker rooms, located in the gym registration area.

In an effort to keep our ride prices down and provide as low a cost ride as possible, we are not able to provide a meal afterwards.  All money raised goes to various Johnson County charities.  Last year we were able to donate over $30,000 to local charities because of the participation of the riders.

Tailwinds: what goes around, …
by Gil Jones
Don’t you love wind at your back? Really, literally or figuratively, it is a nice feeling to have the wind at your back. Tailwinds let you move either faster or with greater ease. Yesterday’s ride planning was to have a ride with some distance and not necessarily speed. Just getting in the distance without a maximal effort was the idea as a part of my training for the BP MS-150 in mid-April. It was known that there would be some wind. No big deal for a West Texas kid — I’m just proud when there is no dust in the air! …

Mino Giunta, winner of Sunday’s Road Race
Sitting 18th in GC I was just out of the cutoff for upgrade points that I was so determined to gain. So far I had nothing to show for my hard work, and I was mad and ready to hurt.  Others had the same idea.  Patrick of NW started the hurt fest that would last the rest of the day.  I came to the front on the first lap and after a half…
