About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Skittles Waco Wild West Century – Waco, TX

Texbiker.net Posted on March 22, 2011 by Rick AnkrumMarch 22, 2011

Skittles Waco Wild West Century
Saturday, September 17, 2011
27th Annual Skittles Waco Wild West Century
Benefiting the Be The Match Foundation
Indian Spring Park
100 University Parks Drive, Waco, Texas
In front of the Hilton, and the Suspension Bridge!

Beginning at 7:45 a.m., all riders will be staged to leave Indian Spring Park. Ride starts at 8:00 a.m. with the tandems, the “really fast guys”, the 100, 65, 50, 25 and 10 milers in that order. The bicycle tour will take place rain or shine. No refunds. You’re welcome to ride any distance you like, but the course will close at 5:00 p.m. No ride support will be available after that time.

The bicycling tour that has made a tradition of great rest stops and super ride support is back for its 27th year. This is one fall event you don’t want to miss! There is a route for everyone – from families on their first bike tour to dedicated riders wanting to set a personal best on a century ride.

Last year’s proceeds from the Skittles Waco Wild West Century made a tremendous difference to the Be The Match Foundation®, formerly the Marrow Foundation, by advancing the Foundation’s Recruitment Campaign. This increased the number of donors for patients searching for a life-saving marrow match.

The Be The Match Registry, operated by the National Marrow Donor Program® has offered hope to more than 30,000 patients with life-threatening diseases.

This year, you can join the National Bone Marrow Registry on Friday from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Indian Spring Park. It just takes a swab to the inside of the mouth – it doesn’t keep you from riding!

Skittles®
Unger & Associates

10-mile family friendly route goes through beautiful Cameron Park and downtown Waco. There are several rest stops to make it a fun ride for all.

26-mile route is also fun for families and recreational riders. This route is quite flat and passes by the Lake Waco Dam and the peaceful surrounding countryside.

50-mile & 65-mile routes are relatively flat with a few challenging hills thrown in to keep you from getting bored!

The 100-mile route take riders through picturesque countryside on rural roads in McLennan and Bosque counties. The route goes through historic Mother Neff State Park, the oldest state park in Texas. This route also has riders pedal past former President George W. Bush’s Crawford Ranch. Although relatively flat, there are some challenging hills to keep your heart pumping.

Again this year, the 50, 65 and 100-mile routes feature a rest stop at the Mars Snackfood candy factory, home of Skittles®.
