I closed out one of the highest mileage weeks with a bike ride on Kingwood streets and trails with 259.88 miles for the week. The ride was pleasant with an overcast sky holding the temperature just below 80 degrees and a light wind. A later start than yesterday after coming home from church and a snack to power my legs rolling away at 1:29 PM for 20.69 miles. The last time I rode more miles in a week was September 5 – 11 last year. Now I am within 71 miles of my 750 mile goal for May. The weather for the week excluded rain and wasn’t too hot and I rode each day.

Today the ride included a little more of the trails than typical. I should’ve rode a little farther to hit 260 miles for the week. I averaged 37.12 miles per day and Wednesday with the most miles.

HOUSTON – As much as Houston is a city for cars and trucks, the options for people to ride a bike are growing. That means the National Bike To Work Day brings more possibilities to ride.
In raw numbers, GOBankingRates calculated ditching a car and all its costs, for a bicycle, would equal an average savings of nearly $4,300 a year. However, there’s a very real challenge in finding comfort in pedaling to work. …
LAREDO, TX. (KGNS) – The month of May is known as National Bike Month and the City of Laredo is inviting the community to pedal their way to downtown for a fun-filled event.
The city is hosting an event called Biciclovia that is meant to encourage families to enjoy the great outdoors by bringing their bicycles or tricycles for the little ones.
Officials will even have bicycles available for those who take part in the event.
There will also be plenty of food, activities, and vendors available as well.
It’s all happening this Saturday, May 20 at Tres Laredo’s Park at 8 a.m.
Geoffrey Shafer was hit by a car near Culebra and Arcadia Creek. His loved ones gathered on what would have been his 39th birthday, still looking for answers.

Texas School For The Blind, 1100 W 45th St,Austin,TX,United States, Austin, United States
The TSBVI has some tandem bikes for us to use. We are meeting at the school and taking the kids on a social ride. It’s an incredible experience to say the least. This is a chance to make a kiddo’s week just by riding your bike (something you would more than likely be doing anyway). One of our volunteers made this short about the ride a while back. …
… WHEN AND WHERE: 6PM to unload tandems, we leave at 6:30 SHARP from the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired. We meet here https://goo.gl/maps/H1k5Uj28AhjUpvyy6. Be there on time. These kids are on a schedule, so the later you are, the less they get to ride.
WHAT: A leisurely ride through a nice neighborhood with the kids from the school. You will have as much fun as they do. After we drop the kids back at the school, we will ride for a …
AUSTIN (KXAN) – Austin’s Trail Conservancy held an event Saturday at the old Seaholm Intake Facility, kicking off the Arts and Culture Plan that is being implemented along the Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail.
In 2014, a controversial proposed public art installation prompted the Austin City Council at the time to impose a temporary ban on commissioned and donated public art to the Hike-and-Bike Trail, according to the Trail Conservancy. The entity said the moratorium was lifted, but that it has been informally followed ever since. …
The level of competition at these races keeps on getting stronger. I was happy to PR this race by 15 minutes and the course was even 2 miles longer. Last year I got 16th and 21st this year. I burned a few matches around mile 50 and had to bridge back solo with contact made by mile 60. I held with the group through mile 85 but got gapped on an attack and was solo for a while after before finally forming a group of 4 to the finish. My key takeaway is that I might not be able to put out the raw wattage to cover those attacks although my w/kg is probably sufficient. Might need to get in the gym more and bulk up for next year. All in all glad to have had a fun, fast day on course in some beautiful weather
We ended up having great weather for a very nice ride designed by David Patterson. We are all so thankful to have David back with us after his heart surgery! Since I mainly ride alone, I always enjoy the opportunity to ride with a group! I’m thankful to Michael Matt for doing a little bit extra with me at the end so I could do what seems silly to some… meet my weekly mileage goal. Above all, and as always, I am thankful to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for saving me both spiritually, and physically, and enabling me to return to this sport, that I love, and to have another safe ride with a bunch of great cyclists
When you age into the “older than dirt” demographic it’s vital to get off the couch and prove something to yourself. Bonus points if done with your children and friends like @dpatriciopic.twitter.com/51KoDF3UOX
Safety is the number one priority when hitting the streets on a bike, but at times, cyclists are at the will of those behind the wheel of a vehicle. https://t.co/l2J9HsJYAe
An early start on today’s bike ride. Not sure why I pushed for the earlier start. I paused stage 4 of the Giro D’Italia with 100km left to the finish to get ready for today’s ride. The route was Atascocita – Huffman – Walden. Starting this early I hoped to see other cyclists on the route and I did. Most of them are in the video but a couple caught me by surprise before I got the GoPro to record. I rode away on my Cervelo Caledonia at 8:16 AM. The weather was comfortable with no threat of rain. When I got to Woodland Hills Drive as I exited Sherwood Trails Village I decided to turn right and ride through Woodridge Forest instead of continuing on Chanay to Northpark Drive. Later when I came to FM 2100 I crossed over and rode east on Old Atascocita Road because I could see a flashing headlight in the far distance and suspected it was more cyclists. When I finished at 10:57 AM I covered 34.16 miles. This is a little longer than the typical distance on this route. This pushed my week total to 239.18 miles and the month to 658.73 miles. I now need 92 miles to hit my 750 mile goal for May. This is the most miles in a week this year and Sunday is a potential ride day. I may need to take a rest day to let my legs recover.
Strava PR on Soaring Woods to Northpark (1:54). I pedaled fast on several starred Strava segments but this was the only result and it wasn’t starred. Since marking some segments I have noticed my average speed increasing.
Third-graders across Harrison County received a special reward this week as 372 new bicycles were given away to students who accomplished their reading goals, propelling themselves to grow their reading skills by a year.
The program is a partnership between local school districts and Mission Marshall, which aims to promote literacy in students at a crucial time in their development.
All four Marshall Elementary schools participated in the program this year, along with …
Austin had its biggest Bike to Work Day yet this morning with 45 "fueling stations" offering morning commuters everything from free breakfast tacos to waffles to bike lights.
But the reality in Austin is that 99% of people commuting to work don’t do it on a bicycle, according to the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2021 American Community Survey. There’s a gender gap, too. Twice as many men ride bikes to work as women, the data show. …

Officers were called to the 3500 Block of Roland Avenue just before 2 a.m. for reports of a major incident. When they arrived they discovered the bicyclist, who has yet to be identified, was riding a bike on the westbound in the eastbound lanes of Roland Avenue at the time of the incident.

Not sure why, but this was one of the best nights sleep!
Deer crossed the park while I was packing up and the camera was too far away… next time you crafty critters! 😉
After coffe and a breakfast taco it was time to hit the road. Conditions went from good, to… sublime! 15 miles West of Brackettville all the way to Del Rio, the shoulder went wider and… smmoootthh.
Second breakfast in Del Rio, grab some fruit from HEB (grocery store) and hopefully land at Governers Landin Park just outside of town.

In other news, my first graders and I rode to “work” this morning. One day, when they’re in charge, Houston will be a bike friendly city. But if not, at least we’ll have more Houstonians who are conscious of the importance of being aware of cyclists on the road. #MyTeacherBikespic.twitter.com/tkrsRPuU5H
