About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

West Texas Cycling Association
Time Trials
Race 1 of the 2011 Third Thursday Time Trial Series
Chapparal Cycling Club, as a part of the West Texas Cycling Association, will be hosting monthly Time Trials throughout the summer. They will be incorporated into the Thursday ride that leaves out from Chisum Travel Center at 6:00pm. Warm up will be the ride from the Chisum Travel Center to the staging area at the intersection of Slaton Hwy & FM1585. TT will start no later than 6:45pm. Riders will race the course and then continue on the usual Thursday ride course. Due to our insurance policy, all racers must be a member of the West Texas cycling Association. Membership forms can be found at the back of any WTCA Newsletter. In addition, membership forms will be available at the staging area before the race. The first Time Trial was held on March 17th and had a great turnout with 22 people racing and 5 volunteers. The next Time Trial will be April 21st provided we have volunteers to help put it on. We need one person to be the Official and then a couple corner marshalls and at least one (better to have two) finish judges. Contact Mike Ivins to sign up to volunteer.

Tour de Longnques March 5th 2011 Ride Report!
Posted on March 18, 2011 by donbynum
In spite of weather forecasts that the Tour would be ridden in mid 40’s temperatures with a 20 mph crosswind gusting to over 30mph, it just was not like that.  When we rolled out from Castell it was sunny and just over 50 degrees.  By the time we had ridden a mile I had unzipped both of my winter long-sleeve cycling jerseys and was cooling off with the Tour de Longneques T-shirt layer being all…

A mysterious discharge of my Garmin… – March 17th Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on March 17, 2011 by Rick AnkrumMarch 17, 2011

A mysterious discharge of my Garmin Edge 305 meant this evening’s ride was going to be without any official record keeping. So I figured I better ride a route I had previously done so that I could at least get an estimate of mileage and other stuff. The selection was to repeat Monday’s ride of 18.47 miles due to a shortened ride time because of the messing around trying to get the 305 to work. This is at least the second time this has happened. I had to do a reset to get it to start recharging and then the charging is very slow even with a wall wart power charger. So no charts or other fancy stuff for this ride. Now I will have to check the 305 to be sure it really is charged.

March mileage update:

  • March miles 189.16 (estimated)
  • YTD miles 714.34
