About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Frogger on the Gulf Freeway
from Texas Racing Life by Ken
Most of the time when you hear of cyclists getting hit, it is a tragedy. The car driver, a 16 year old girl was texting her friend about Transformer 2, and next things she knows, has killed a 30year old male with 3 kids on his way home from work.  I always feel vulnerable and angry, half knowing that this could happen to me even…

In the end, the traffic cone won the battle. After doing her best triple…

Chris Carmichael Blog: Too Much of Good Thing? Hardly.
from Trainright Blog by CTS
Here’s the inevitable problem with citing research studies: you can almost always find a study that will “prove”, “indicate”, or “suggest” the exact opposite of the point you’re trying to make. And thus it was with great chagrin that I read the recent NY Times Blog “When exercise is too much of a good thing”. The gist of the article is that there is research suggesting that endurance athlete who train and compete at a high level for three or…

2011 Denton Criterium Men’s 3/4
from Texas Racing Life by Ken
After the Cat 2/3 crit, my family and I had a relaxing lunch at Quizno’s.  I had time to take a short nap and catch the end of the P/1/2 race before my 3/4 race.  The wind had not changed since the 2/3 race, and you can find a description of the course here.

After feeling the swiftness of the 2/3 race, the 3/4 race was feeling a bit slow, sort of like how you feel when you come off the highway on…

Around noon today I did not think… – March 14th Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on March 14, 2011 by Rick AnkrumMarch 14, 2011

Around noon today I did not think I would be riding this evening but by the time I got home at 5:45 the streets were dry and the skies were clear. The temperature was 65 which was a little cooler than I hoped for. I probably should have dressed a little warmer but I figured the intensity and body heat would offset the coolness. This worked after I got warmed up but until then I was cooler than I preferred. So the first 2011 evening ride in DST is in the training diary. Tomorrow the evening looks favorable for riding as well.

March mileage update:

  • March miles 151.31
  • YTD miles 676.48
