About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Tunis-Roubaix XII Race Report
from Texas A&M Cycling Team by admin
By Mark McGraw | The Campus Gypsy No one in the Men’s “C” group looked back or missed a pedal stroke when we heard the stomach-churning sounds of lycra-encased flesh and a carbon fiber bicycle hitting gravel at speed. 2011 Lago Vista Men’s 3/4 Sunday
from Texas Racing Life by Ken
The Sunday Lago Vista has not been done for over 10 years.  It’s the same course, raced the opposite direction.  So instead of a gradual climb and screaming descent, we have a 14% grade hill and a gradual descent.  Hint: it’s hard.  The race was bound to lose 10 people out the back a lap, so I knew it would…

2011 La Primavera at Lago Vista Men’s 3/4 Saturday
from Texas Racing Life by Ken
As a Cat5, this was my first race ever 3 years ago.  This year was my third time racing Lago.  How far we come….
The Lago Vista course is nestled in a quiet neighborhood on a peninsula of Lake Travis.  Running the course clockwise on Saturday means there is a gradual long-ish (For Texas?) climb and a steep, fast descent where it is easy to reach speeds of 45 mph.  The climb is around 10% and is long enough to make selections in the field, but you having to be…

It was a dark and windy evening… – March 7th Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on March 7, 2011 by Rick AnkrumMarch 7, 2011

It was a dark and windy evening when I left for my ride. Well actually it did not get real dark until about 10 minutes after I left on the ride. The windy part is true with the 18 mph SE wind making the ride a challenge when I hit the exposed areas. The heavy clouds could have let some rain loose any time but I only had a few isolated sprinkles at the 3.5 mile mark. Tomorrow has a slight chance of rain so maybe I can get a ride in.

The weekend was a bust as far as riding was concerned. Saturday morning had rain so I skipped the Baytown Gator Ride. In fact as the day wore on the temperature dropped into the lower 50’s, below my threshold. Sunday had too many other duties so biking could not get up the priority list.

March mileage report:

  • March miles 42.23
  • YTD miles 567.41

3-7-2011 Ride Data

Additional charts, weather and map.
