Red River Riot
Presented by The Spinistry
Red River Valley, TX
Saturday, April 23, 2011 Online Registration Closes Friday, April 22, 2011 at 8:00 AM ET
The 2011 Red River Riot will be a grass roots ride this time around with the focus being the best and most challenging route possible. This is not an official “event” so don’t look for prizes, sag support, portapots or schwag.
We’re going to give you a great route to follow that will cover at least 100 miles of dirt roads in North Texas. We’ll coordinate a meet up spot and time and provide directions for everyone to find their way from Point A to Point Z. There is no entry fee but donations will be accepted to cover the overhead for signage/maps/etc.
The long route will be around 120 miles
The short route will be around 60 miles
We may offer a mini route of around 30 miles if there is any interest
Most current information will most likely be on the Spinistry Facebook page or on Spinistry.com. See you there!

We had some historic lows the past few days (3 deg F) and a little bit of snow, which provided me with a unique opportunity (this far south) for a different type of ride. We’re supposed to be in the 50s and 60s this weekend so I skipped work and went for a ride before all the snow melts. …

I was woken Sunday morning in San Antonio with the sounds that one might expect of cheap, thin hotel room walls and couples staying in rooms on both sides of you……I quickly went down to breakfast to check the TXBRA forums for any dirt/complaining because of yesterday’s crit. Unfortunately, there was nothing exciting…

Ken Day and Eric Attayi after the race
I left Houston on Saturday morning to get to the Castroville area about 2 hours before my race started. After the obligatory stop at BUCCEE’s, I was just in time to see my teammate, Afton Shelton, sprint for 2nd place in the women’s 3/4 race (1st women’s 4 to cross the line). …

Alsatian Country III Criterium Men’s P/1/2
from Texas Racing Life by Ken
I watched this race from the sidelines, and it proved very confusing to watch as there were many breaks commingling and lapping many different groups. The hero and eventual winner of the race was David Wenger, of SuperSquadra. He bridged up to the front group about halfway through the race, and then helped that group lap the main field. After that, he attacked to bridge to a second breakaway, which was ahead, to win the race by staying away from the lapped field and front group.
Today’s ride doubled the number of miles I have ridden so far this month. The weather warmed up to 71 degrees when I finished the ride at 1:30. A firm 3.1 mph SW breeze with partly cloudy skies added to the ride’s pleasure. I bundled up thinking the wind and clouds would be chilly but I think I could have rode with less coverings. The double long sleeve jerseys and windbreaker were fine but I had sweated a good amount when I got home. The leg warmers were comfortable but I could have made it without them as well. I almost did not wear the full finger gloves but I did. At time when the clouds covered the sun the extra clothing was appreciated. I think this might be the first day in February the temperature has made it to 70. I would like to think there would be more like this but the weatherman says more cold weather later this week. I would like to ride in the Pedaling the Prairie next Saturday in Katy but this will be decided when the weather gets firm.
