About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

After a week of cold weather… – January 15th Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on January 15, 2011 by Rick AnkrumJanuary 15, 2011

After a week of cold weather and no outdoor riding I was finally able to ride 25.5 miles today. This put me over the 100 mile mark for the month and the year.  Two times this week I rode the Cyclops windtrainer for a little over 6 miles each time. The skies today were not that promising and I did go through some patches of light rain while I was out riding today. The rain did not last long though. The temperature was 61 degrees when I go back home down from the 64 degrees when I left.

Spinning the cranks felt good and I was able to keep the pace up most of the way. My average speed always drops down during the last 4 miles home due to the route I take to get around the traffic. I did bundle up some and maybe as a little too over layered but the wind chill evened it out. No other riders were out today but some golfers were. Tomorrow does not look favorable weather wise but Monday could be in the low 70’s. According to the SciGuy in the Houston Chronicle, January 24th is when the daily average temperature usually starts going up. I am ready for that.

January miles to date: 104.45
