About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Texas Rando Stampede 1200 – Waxahachie, TX

Texbiker.net Posted on December 14, 2010 by Rick AnkrumDecember 14, 2010

Texas Rando Stampede 1200
The Texas Rando Stampede 1200 is a 750 mile (1200 kilometer) bicycle ride organized by the Lone Star Randonneurs bicycle club under the auspices of Randonneurs USA and the Randonneurs Mondaux.

For information about randonneuring in general, please visit the Randonneurs USA web site.

If you live in the North Texas area and are interested in randonneuring, we would like to hear from you.  Please visit our club web page for details on other (much shorter!) rides that we do and how you can join us.  We welcome new members anyime.

For those considering the Texas Rando Stampede 1200, you’ll find information about the route, the ride, and how to register.

The 2011 inaugural Texas Rando Stampede starts May 11 at 5:00 AM.

This is a list of major events and milestones leading up to the Texas Rando Stampede 1200

3 Jan 2011 – Registration opens
TBD 2011 – Registration closes (or when the field limit is reached)
27 April 2011 – Deadline to submit qualifying ride documentation
10 May 2011 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM – Bike inspection at Holiday Inn Express, Waxahachie, TX
11 May 2011 5:00 AM RIDE START

Why so early in the year?
Spring is a beautiful season in Texas with an abundance of wildflowers and moderate temperatures.  While summer may be the most common time to schedule a randonee, the brutal heat of the Texas summer would make this ride extremely difficult and potentially dangerous.  It is the goal of the organizers to offer a ride that showcases the state of Texas, not to create a death march.

Supernova E3 and Shimano Alfine

Lights without batteries; that’s what I’m talking about.  And not those faint lights with whirring, tire-rubbing bottle generators from decades past.  I’ve been using the Supernova E3 and Shimano Alfine dynamo hub for about…

Holiday Lights Ride
from Biking In Dallas by Christopher Curnutt
A couple of dozen of us rode through the neighborhoods around SMU tonight enjoying some of the more amazing holiday light displays in town.  We stopped at Highland Park Village for coffee and hot chocolate.

The weather was actually perfect for it, assuming you wore a hat and gloves and all.  I ride through my own neighborhood all the time so…

Almost Christmas Century 2010 (12/18/2010)
from Home by mike.emmons@verizon.net (Mike Emmons) Plano Bicycle Association
Ride starts at 8 am from the northwest corner of Coit and Spring Creek (Behind the shops).  The century riders will start with DB2 and break off at some point during the ride.

The route goes to Little Elm, Lake Ray Roberts Dam, Pilot Point and Celina.  It’s very scenic traveling through some great horse farms.  There are some nice rolling hills to go along with it so this is not your best bet for a first time century.  Given the predicted temperatures, we won’t need to limit the crowd but there will…

Mountain biking in a moon-like part of West Texas
from alpinedailyplanet.typepad.com
BIG BEND RANCH STATE PARK — Blood oozes from my cactus-shredded calves and I slam into rocks with such force I’m sure my bike will self-destruct, but I can’t contain a whoop of glee as I bomb down a desert trail.

I’ve come to remote Big Bend Ranch State Park, just west of the better-known Big Bend National Park, for a four-day bike trek. We’re pedaling and camping our way through the land of tarantulas, sand and star-splashed night skies on what has been dubbed “The Ride to the Other Side of Nowhere.” …
