About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

…21 mph NW Wind (gusts to 28 mph) Put a Chill… – December 12th No Ride Report

Texbiker.net Posted on December 12, 2010 by Rick AnkrumDecember 12, 2010

I was really considering riding this afternoon by banking on the typical warming that takes place. But the 21 mph NW wind (gusts to 28 mph) put a chill on the plan. After yesterday’s balmy 76 degrees today’s 54 and clear skies could not overcome the strong wind. Now my 60 degree lower limit will continue to mid-week when the temperature is supposed to get into the lower 70’s during the daytime.

In place of riding I watched the finish of the USA Cycling National Championship Elite Women’s Cyclocross race. Later at 4:20 PM CST I will watch some of the men’s competition. The course was somewhat muddy but not extremely so like they are in Europe. The race was streamed on the USAcyclying.org website and Versus website (relay of the USAcycling.org stream).

Arlington Needs Your Help
from Bike Friendly Richardson by dickdavid
It’s come to our attention that the master bike and pedestrian plan for the City of Arlington is under scrutiny and they have a favor to ask.

After a strong initial turnout for the early workshops and what appeared to be full support from the city council, BFA assumed that the well-researched plan (by the Greenways Consultants – backstory here) for adding much…

Yo-Yo December Weather… – December 11th Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on December 11, 2010 by Rick AnkrumDecember 11, 2010

Today was the first ride since last Saturday. Between the yo-yo December weather and a list of meetings it has been a difficult time to ride. The weather yo-yo continues tomorrow too. The temperature was 75 degrees with mostly cloudy skies and a WSW 13 mph wind. Since I only had time for a 26-27 mile ride the wind was not a real factor since I did not go far enough to deplete my energy. I did not see any other riders out and the route was my typical Sunday one. I did look at the Christmas decorations many people put but the best time to see them is the dark. Some homes are vary elaborate.

I continue to enjoy the Motobecane Le Champion road bike. This carbon fiber frame and the Shimano Ultegra components work very well together.

Earlier in the day while running some errands I come upon three bikers on W. Lake Houston Parkway. They were headed south. All three were wearing Bike Barn shorts, different jerseys though. Later when I was headed back home from a meeting I spotted two other riders as well.

Even though the weather is supposed to turn cold overnight I am hoping to take the Motobecane 700HT MTB for a few miles. this will break my rule to not ride when the temperature is below 60 degrees.

Ride information for the month and year:

  • December miles 90.97
  • YTD miles 5024.29 (I made the goal. I think I can get to 5100.)
