About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Craddock brings enticing potential to Texas cycling
by San Antonio Express
Veteran cyclist Kevin Kremke stripped off his racing garb late Sunday morning, changing clothes so that he could attend the awards ceremony on the final day of the Tour de Gruene Bicycle Classic.
Craddock
Kremke and John Korioth, two familiar names at the annual October race, had just posted the fastest time in the two-man team time trial.

But as Kremke stuffed his bike and his racing suit into the back of his vehicle and put on his shorts and T-shirt, he talked about an 18-year-old…

Trans Am Bicycle Ride to Fill this House 2010: Two Stepping across …

The last ride for this week was through the most scenic Texas landscapes yet. To me, the Texas hill country is reminiscent of western New South Wales in Australia. Semi arid pastureland, studded with stately live oaks, with frequent …

Goal Reached – October 31st Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on October 31, 2010 by Rick AnkrumOctober 31, 2010

The goal for October was 600 miles and I was getting close but it took today’s ride to get over the mark. The weather was picture perfect again which is great for bicycling but it also means the month of October recorded no measurable rain. Grass and trees are getting brown. I know it will rain someday and when it does it could be heavy but that is the way rain happens in southeast Texas. The temperature was 87 degrees when I got back from my ride, skies are clear blue and a light 6 mph breeze is what make this a perfect day for a ride.

Evidently other bikers were not out while I was or where I was because I did not see one rider. Being Halloween maybe people have other plans.

Today’s route is one I travel regularly but a few years ago the road through Valley Ranch was not there. Thanks to DR Horton builders there is a nice two lane concrete road that I take that has almost traffic and moves me away from the noise and traffic on the US59 service road. One thing I noticed on our September vacation trip is that not many states put service roads beside major highways and interstate highways. Not too long ago TXDot was considering no longer building service roads along highways but the public outcry change their mind. For bicycle riders this would reduce the access they have if the service roads were to disappear.

Next week I will try to gather miles for November since the daylight will become scarce once daylight savings time ends next Sunday morning. I want to ride at least another 400 to 500 miles before the year ends.

Today’s ride information:

  • October miles 601.38
  • This week’s miles 126.79
  • YTD miles 4602.97

Koobi PRS Century Saddle First Impressions

Texbiker.net Posted on October 31, 2010 by Rick AnkrumOctober 30, 2010

I purchased the Koobi PRS Century saddle based on what I saw when I was in Wichita Falls back in August for the Hotter’n Hell 100 bike ride. Koobi was in the Consumer Expo. Many years ago I rode on the first Koobi AU saddle and was pleased with it. I rode that one until the leather cover tore. While the Koobi AU was not what I considered an expensive saddle the Koobi PRS Century is an expensive saddle for me. This is why I only considered buying this saddle after I learned about the 30 return policy.

Opening the box I saw they included extra polyurethane bumpers to adjust the suspension. The instructions were there as well and appear to be detailed enough to make the change easy. So far I have not found no reason to change the bumpers that were installed.

When I ordered the saddle I choose the rail medal (titanium alloy or manganese). There are women’s versions as well. In addition I was asked for my body weight, number of hours cycling per week, primary use of the saddle. These questions direct the suspension bumpers that are installed. My weight is on the edge of one of the selections so I had to decide whether to go above my weight or below. I chose the range where my weight was at the bottom.

Once the order was placed shipment happened very promptly and two days later the USPS delivered the box. Now for the video.

As of October 30th I have about 140 miles on this saddle. I am pleased with the ride and feel and unless something comes up in the next ride or two I will not be exercising the 30 day return policy. The seat is more comfortable than the Douglas one I replaced and I thought it was comfortable. Watch my ride reports for comments as I continue to ride the Koobi PRS Century.
