About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Why Sugar Can Shorten or Lengthen Your Life

October 7th Bike Ride – More Than I Expected

Texbiker.net Posted on October 7, 2010 by Rick AnkrumOctober 7, 2010

My work schedule was different today so I was able to get a full length bike ride in before sundown. Today’s weather was “Chamber of Commerce” perfect again with 81 degrees, clear blue skies and no breeze to speak of. I don’t know what I will do when this finally changes; I guess I will be in mourning. I have not been on today’s route in many weeks so it was good to be on the road to see if anything has changed. No changes but I did see one biker. This Saturday will be good weather and I look forward to a long ride on the local roads.

Today’s ride data.

  • October miles 140.39
  • YTD miles 4141.98

Recovery & Recovery – October 6th Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on October 6, 2010 by Rick AnkrumOctober 6, 2010

I have had to take two days off from riding to recover from the hills at the Pineywoods Purgatory ride on Saturday and then my follow up ride on Sunday. I was stretching the muscles by riding on Sunday. Monday at work every time I stood up the thigh muscles took a few seconds to respond to the instructions from my brain. I could’ve have ridden last night but it was National Night Out and we went to the event in Humble since Kingwood had their event on Saturday for some reason.

Tonight’s ride was back to normal as far as the muscles are concerned. No more aches and it felt good to be turning the pedals on the Raleigh M800 mountain bike. Traffic was lighter than has been so I got home from work a few minutes earlier than I have been. This meant that I could ride longer before I needed to turn the headlight on while riding. Not many riders out tonight but a number of joggers. Here is tonight’s activity:

  • October miles 112.78
  • YTD miles 4114.38

10-6-2010 Ride Data

Here are some additional charts.
