About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Blue Bike Perimeter Ride
By Nancy Wright
February 14, to Carmine, TX: Happy Valentine’s Day!
Sunday February 14, 2010, 40 miles (64 km) – Total so far: 3,953 miles (6,362 km)
It started out very foggy so I waited until about 8:45 to leave. The road had a good wide shoulder so I rode even though there was a bit of fog left. After riding for about an hour, the sun came out for the rest of the day. The hills continued all day long, but the wind had died down and the scenery was pretty, so it made for a pleasant ride most of the way.

I stopped in the small town of Independence, the birthplace of Texas. …

Shrink to Fit: Bike me.
by tena
Today we had sun. Lots of sun. It’s still kinda chilly, but having the sun up in that big, blue, Texas sky, was just what my soul needed today. I’ve been doing very little self-care lately. Mostly, letting stress be the dictator of my mood. I’m looking for validation in all the wrong places, again. …

If you’ve been to Austin, Texas before, you know that it’s a big city. Not necessarily a sprawling city, but a vibrant place with 271 square miles of buildings, restaurants, roads, urban fare, and millions of friendly people with their respective houses.

Cyclophile: Objects in your Mirror are closer than they appear.
by Speedo
I just got home from my annual Tucson trip. It is not a big bike trip but a shopping trip for beads, gems and glass. I do manage to get in a ride if I can and they are always interesting. One thing to keep in mind about Tucson is that is never really flat, at least not South Texas flat. Tucson sits in a bowl of mountains that look really close but are actually just really big. I did a flat ride this year and still got in almost a 1000 feet of climbing. When I lived in Oregon I considered myself a bit of a mountaineer. I moved to South Texas 20 years ago and one morning I woke up a flatlander. This is not a good thing coming from a long line of hillbillies. …
