About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

New Belgium Brewing Urban Assault Ride – Austin, TX

Texbiker.net Posted on January 30, 2010 by Rick AnkrumJanuary 30, 2010

Welcome to the New Belgium Brewing Urban Assault Ride!
We’re a bit biased, but we’re pretty sure the UAR is the most fun you’ll have on a bike.

First time? No problem! The event has a laid back atmosphere and most folks come for the fun (maybe the beer too;)

Think of it like a day at an amusement park – with the added bonus of a good ride, tasty beer, and lots of schwag!

All registrations include:
1. Entry into the race
2. Donation to the charities (Bicycle advocacy and environmental non-profits)
3. 100% cotton t-shirt – and we have women’s sizes too!
4. New Belgium Brewing drawstring backpack, stickers, and more schwag.
5. Snacks and drinks from our sponsors
That’s right! Beer and snacks are provided after the UAR! We’ll also have plenty of non-alcoholic drinks too!
6. Entry raffle prizes from our sponsors: Timbuk2 messenger bags, Clif Bars, Giro helmets and sunglasses, t-shirts, socks, tool and lubes, New Belgium gear, and much more
8. A huge post-event party with good music lots of contests and all of your new friends

Texas Bicycling Blog and News Roundup for January 30th

Texbiker.net Posted on January 30, 2010 by Rick AnkrumJanuary 30, 2010

Dear Friend of Law Enforcement
by TexasFred
Ladies and Gentlemen, I want to introduce you to a friend of mine, Barry Morris. Barry is a Texas DPS Trooper, a member of The Thin Blue Line and a really great guy. Below is Barry’s story and a request. If you can help him in this noble deed, please do!

On the 9th day of May 2010, I will again have the pleasure of participating in the Police Unity Tour.

The Police Unity Tour is a bicycle ride comprised of hundreds of law enforcement officers from across the US and Puerto Rico. We ride from just outside of New York City to Washington D.C. The Tour acts as the kick-off for National Police Week, celebrated each May in D.C. I will be riding alongside…

YouTube – Houston Texas Adaptive Bicycle Give Away
In October of 2009, Variety presented nine children in the Houston area with over $40,000 worth of durable medical goods, adapted bicycles, therapeutic services and much more. This video is of the presentation of five adaptive bicycles and includes comments from the families.

The Texas  Cycle: C’mon Spring
by Kahne
January nearly in the bag. I’ve done well on keeping up my run. The Sunday trail runs with Kami and Peter have been good. I still get discomfort and post-run pain in my left big toe but without a specific diagnosis, what the hey? Just live with it. I’ve also gotten back to my swim. It’s not hard with such miserable weather and the pool right there on campus. It also helps to relieve frustration after my Japanese class. (I’m not doing badly. I’m just a perfectionist and hate not feeling on top of things.) The one thing I have not kept up as much as I should is the bike. I think I’ve had one outdoor ride…

Daily News Roundup January 29th – Texas Bicycling

Texbiker.net Posted on January 29, 2010 by Rick AnkrumJanuary 29, 2010

Great Southwest Bike Swap
When: Sunday, February 7th
9:00 a.m.– 3:00 p.m. Fort Worth, Texas
What: What is it? A one day event where bicycle shops, frame builders and independent
bike geeks can buy, sell, trade and show bicycle stuff.
Where: The Tarrant County Resource Connection is on the south side of Fort Worth on Campus Dr., one exit east of the I-20/I-35w interchange. The Resource Connection is generously allowing our two clubs to hold the swap meet in the gymnasium. So, no matter how ugly the weather, we will be dry and comfy. …

House of Pistard – Destroying Cycling: GALLUS
by Xander
Jeremy Schlachter used to be a courier in Glasgow but he’s now building frames in Texas and they are lovely. I’ve been meaning to post something about Gallus Cycles for ages ago but Hey! What are you gonna do? …

Bike the Borderline: ‘night Jon Boy
by Ant and Kat
The ride today was eclipsed by the gastronomic, euphoric and mind blowing brilliant experience of eating at ROYERS ROUND TOP CAFE, courtesy of Jon Boy (JB) and Bud Royer… but more of that later.

As time passes by, we are becoming masters of bike ride planning! Religiously checking the weather.com website the night before setting out on our incremental reduction of the remaining 10,000 miles and taking the wind direction, speed and distance into consideration, we are now able to successfully and with military precision calculate the exact time at which we need to eject ourselves…

Fitness activities aren’t about winning and losing — they’re about the lifestyle
By Bill Cullins
Posted January 29, 2010 at 9:46 p.m.
SAN ANGELO, Texas — Eleven of us who bike, run, or compete in multisport events are amateur athletes. Very few (if any) of us will ever become a professional, and most of us will finish mid-pack in the races we enter. However, while winning is obviously a great goal, there are much more important reasons why we build our lifestyle around fitness activities.

I’ve given a lot of thought to the question “What if I couldn’t do my sports any more”? Quite frankly, that question scares the heck of out me. I’ve participated in challenging…
