The weather took a warm turn today. Mostly cloudy but in the mid-70’s are what I have been waiting for. I was beginning to wonder if there would be any road miles this month. I need to get some base miles in so that I can make it through the organized rides that kick off in February. The wind today was stiff from the south with gusts at 17mph. For weak legs this might as well been have gale force winds. Here is my performance chart from my Garmin Edge 305.

Mike’s Life and Training Blog: MLK Day
by Mike
…I have been keeping consistent to the stationary bike, around 60 minutes per day, a few hard but mostly easy spins, the routine is a good one and soon enough I can get back outdoors now and then for a real ride. My road bike is in the shop for some new brakes and seat, it should be ready to pick up in a couple off days. I haven’t rode for awhile, being content to drill on the stationary bike. The weather has been unfriendly for cycling as well. My brother just recently bought his first road bike, I am ecstatic about this…
Bike Reviews » Crossing the Texas Plains by Bicycle

1991 Texas Road Race Championships.
Back then finishing the event meant something. 4 previous attempts met with failure on my part. The course was in the heart of the Texas Hill Country north of San Antonio, and while the altitude might be lacking, the steepness of the grades wasn’t. In ’91 and ’92 the course was “T” shaped with the start and finish at the bottom of the “T” which was at the top of the steepest climb (see the last 3 images). The feed zone was on the right part of the “T” and was probably as steep. …

Bicycle Tour #2 – Wimberley, TX – Lessons Learned
from www.bikegurus.com
At 9am on Wednesday, December 30th I rolled out of my driveway on my Trek Valencia and embarked on my second bicycle tour. My destination, Wimberley, TX, was about 50 miles northeast of my home.
I planned the route using Garmin’s Mapsource program on my PC and downloaded the route to my Garmin Edge 705 so I’d have the benefit of turn-by-turn directions…
This is not Texas bicycling but I could not pass up the news from my hometown newspaper. McConnelsville is on the Muskingum River in Southeast Ohio. Very rural and some hills.
Bicycle tour to make a stop in McConnelsville
BY BRIAN McKEE (Zanesville Times Recorder)
McCONNELSVILLE — The Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure will include a stop in McConnelsville this year.
The annual event will take place June 19-26, and the expected 3,000 riders will gather for the tour on June 19 at the Hocking County Fairgrounds in Logan. They will begin cycling on June 20, covering an average of 50 miles per day, and will stay overnight in McConnelsville on June 20. The cyclists also will visit Marietta, Athens and McArthur before returning to Logan on June 26.
“McConnelsville had been a daytime stop on GOBA several years ago,” Amy Grove, of the OSU Extension office in McConnelsville, said. “This time we have an overnight stop. This is quite a coup for McConnelsville. This tour averages 2,100 to 3,100 cyclists.”
During the past 20 years, GOBA has been instrumental in generating nearly $10 million in tourism revenues in the towns along the route, as well as providing access to Ohio’s rural treasures to cyclists from all over the U.S. …

Finally, Off the Windtrainer and On The Road
The weather finally turned enough to get out on the road/trails where I live. I grabbed the Raleigh M800 and took off. The mostly cloudy and mid-60’s temperature were suitable for the ride. My trusty Garmin Edge 305 kept up with the data while I worked on turning the pedals. The headlamp was necessary with the sunset at 5:45 and my leaving at 6:11PM. Here is the data and route thanks to SportTrack software.
