About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

FtW CycEx: Tuesday night in January
by rab
It was nice to see the sun and actually feel some warmer temperatures today.

Went out for a ride after work on the road bike (which has been collecting dust lately) and was surprised how quickly it cooled off. Thankfully it was one of those rare calm nights so I didn’t have to factor in the windchill.
Definitely better off than my brothers and sisters back east who are still in the icebox. Good news is this “warmer” weather is headed your way…I think.

by Roy and Christine
Winter has arrived and, speaking for myself, the weather has drastically cut into cycle time. You can hear the plaintiff rumblings of being house-bound from a lot of quarters.

Recently I was surfing on my Facebook and some of the comments found on my page: “O.K.—I don’t live in Texas fur nothing; it’s darn cold. I must remember this come those 100+ temps we ride in during bikin’ season, but 12 degrees—really!”
“You hit it right on the nose. I’m already tired of riding on my trainer. I just want to be outside!!! I would live up north if I wanted this much cold!”…

Yeah Tweed Ride, Boo Tweed Ride | Austin On Two Wheels
by elliott
I blame it on the fact that our Texas climate means there’s only 20-30 days of the year you’d actually want to wear tweed. The rest of the year, you’d be just plain hot. This ride was a chance to get duded up and most of the participants did not disappoint. Tweed jackets, knickers, and frock coats were in abundance and many of the lovely ladies had all manner of feathers in their hair. …

University of Texas Cycling Team Blog: Cyclocross!

In the cold dead of winter, when the typical roadies are spinning bikes on their trainers, eating holiday cookies and getting overweight in the revelry of their so-called ‘off-season’ some diehard cyclists are still training. Through snow, sleet, and temperatures which freeze the readings on their HRMs, these cyclists, the baddest of the bad, not only train, but thrive. …

Comanche Cyclone Bicycle Tour – Comanche, TX

Texbiker.net Posted on January 10, 2010 by Rick AnkrumJanuary 10, 2010

Rides of 10, 22, 28, 42, 55 & 75 miles. All on paved two-lane farm-to-market roads, and country highways with wide shoulders. The routes have some flat runs, long stretches with gradual inclines, and some hills that could be challenging for less experienced or less fit riders. Check the route information by using the”Ride Day Routes” tab at the top of the page.

Also be sure to check the special route for youngsters 10 and under. It’s very safe and carefully monitored. They’ll be able to do their thing — with a little help from Mom or Dad!

Fully staffed Rest Stops will be strategically placed — with the riders’ comfort and safety in mind. There will be iced water, cold sports drinks, and a variety of snacks available to help “recharge your batteries.” Plus the necessary “relief” facility.
