About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Riding My Trek Marlin 8 MTB To See Hurricane Beryl Damage

Texbiker.net Posted on July 27, 2024 by Rick AnkrumJuly 27, 2024

The light rain didn’t stop me from riding my Trek Marln 8 MTB today. The last time I rode was July 7th, the day before Hurricane Beryl landed. With the time off the bike I decided to ride Kingwood streets and see some of the hurricane damage. In Bear Branch Village I heard generators running from a power outage earlier today. The size of the fallen trees is hard to believe. Nothing fancy from the 10.3 miles other than getting back on a bike. Needless to say I will not reach my goal for July.

New ‘safety officers’ working downtown Austin

by: Brianna Hollis | www.kxan.com

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Downtown Austin Alliance (DAA) has some new faces on its street team. They’re called “safety officers.”

“We have an elevated safety team that’s a facet of downtown ambassadors program, they’re higher level qualified, trained individuals, basically the same the same level as a building security officer,” said the DAA’s Bill Brice.

While they don’t have the authority to make arrests, they can assist in getting people off of private property if issues arise, and bridge the gap between the community and the police department. …

Help shape SA’s bike plan

By David Martin Davies | www.tpr.com

The San Antonio Bike Network Plan aims to foster a more bike-friendly city, reducing traffic congestion, promoting healthier lifestyles, and ensuring safer streets for everyone. By attending the open house, residents can play a crucial role in shaping the plan before it is presented to the San Antonio City Council, ensuring that our infrastructure meets the community’s needs and expectations.

This is a unique chance for residents to directly influence decisions about bike infrastructure and see what is planned for the streets in front of their homes.

This final open house represents the last public opportunity for community input before …

One-of-a-kind bridge links pedestrian trails over busy Texas highway

www.ajot.com

In Dallas, the Northaven Trail Bridge has been installed as a crucial connection for multiple regional bicycle and pedestrian pathways. The solution came in the form of the only known S-curved, network tied bridge in the world – which was efficiently set overnight by Mammoet’s team.

Prior to its installation, the heavily traveled Northaven Trail on the west side of U.S. 75 and the Cottonwood Creek and White Rock Creek trails on the east side abruptly halted at the roadway. In order to access the trails on the opposite side of one of Texas’ busiest highways, cyclists and pedestrians had to detour through a dim underpass.

Mammoet teams worked with Ragle, Inc. and bridge designer HNTB to carefully plan the execution, considering multiple options to …

Council talks Dripping Springs Mountain Biking Team

Megan Navarro | www.haysfreepress.com

DRIPPING SPRINGS — At its July 16 meeting, Dripping Springs City Council discussed the future of a local mountain biking club’s use of Dripping Springs Ranch Park.

This comes on the heels of damage found at the park following a Trail Maintenance Day that took place earlier this year on April 23. The gathering was hosted by the Dripping Springs Mountain Biking Team (DSMBT), however, the city and DSRP staff were unaware of the scheduled event. The next day, on April 24, Parks & Community Services Director Andrew Binz noticed displaced dirt, boulders and trees in the ravine located behind the Ranch House, according to agenda documents from a previous meeting on May 7.

Upon further investigation by DSRP Manager Emily Nelson and DSRP Assistant Manager Lily Sellers, it was …
