About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Columbia Muddy Buddy Ride & Run – Dallas, TX

Texbiker.net Posted on October 27, 2009 by Rick AnkrumOctober 27, 2009

Columbia Muddy Buddy Ride & Run events are adventure races that require two-person teams to navigate a six to seven-mile mountain bike and trail-running course containing five obstacles. Each event’s signature finale involves both teammates belly-crawling through a 60-foot-long mud pit before crossing the finish line. Kids between the ages of 4 and 13 can also join in the fun as a part of the Columbia Mini Muddy Buddy in which they complete a short obstacle course and slither through the same mud pit as the grown-ups.

The 10-year-old Muddy Buddy Series, which has become known for eccentric costumes and entertaining post race festivities, hosts between 900 and 1,800 two-person teams at each event and has responded to this growing popularity by expanding from 8 to 18 events over the last three years.

Mountain” biking? Really? « Off the Gravel Road
by rao
I don’t remember his name, but there was a comedian from the Texas panhandle who once said something along the lines of, “One of the things about the Texas panhandle is that you can stand anywhere and see 20 miles in every direction.  Stand on a tuna can and you can see 200 miles in every direction.”  Another long-standing joke around here is, “What do you call a day where the wind is sustained at 40 MPH?  Great golf weather.”

When I first told people that I was really starting to get into biking and mountain biking, most thought I was just kidding.  They would look all around them and say, “Mountain biking?  Really?  Are these mountains in your head?” …

Park Tools on How-To: Wrap bike handlebars

Texbiker.net Posted on October 26, 2009 by Rick AnkrumOctober 26, 2009

Back on July 10th, 2008, I had a post on how to put bar tape on your handlebars. Today I was reading Make Magazine online and they linked to another version of instructions from Park Tools. They have pictures and step-by-step instructions. One thing they show is wearing surgical gloves which I have never done when I wrap my handlebars.
