About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Greater Houston Off-Road Bicycling Association—Double Lake Trails Expansion (Texas) — A $10,000 grant will go to the Greater Houston Off-Road Bicycling Association (GHORBA) to help expand the trail network at Double Lake Recreation Area. Although Bikes Belong supported this project last year, Hurricane Ike destroyed nearly 2,000 volunteer-hours worth of GHORBA-built singletrack shortly after our grant award was given. This was a huge setback for the group and required that volunteers spend last year rebuilding rather than expanding their trail system. This grant will help provide matching funds for a Recreational Trails Program Grant, enabling GHORBA to proceed with their expansion efforts this year.

Bayou City Art Festival Memorial Park (Houston) Bike Depot

Texbiker.net Posted on March 21, 2009 by Rick AnkrumMarch 21, 2009

There may not be public parking for cars at the Bayou City Art Festival Memorial Park, but this year there will be a Bike Depot for the safe-keeping of bikes.  I thought you may want to know about the KPFT 90.1 Bike Depot that will help Festival goers decrease their carbon imprint.  For a $2 donation, KPFT volunteers will lock up Festival-goers’ bikes on a bike rack watch them all day.

Thanks to Susan Farb Morris for this information.

Bayou City Art Festival Memorial Park is Houston’s spring art awakening each March. Kicking off with “Legacy at Memorial First Look Friday,” March 27 through Sunday, March 29, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., the award-winning juried art event is the only festival to take place in Memorial Park, the city’s premiere public park enclave.

Shovel Ready Work Stops Bike Route

Texbiker.net Posted on March 21, 2009 by Rick AnkrumMarch 21, 2009

I was not able to make the organized ride in Kountz that I thought about doing so I decided to drive to Splendora and start my ride there. This was necessary due to all of the construction on US59, FM1314 and FM1485 that I use to as jump off roads for my weekend rides. The shovels were flying and the concrete is pouring. This sign about sharing the road was fitting since I am sharing with all of the construction vehicles and workers.

I decided to record the route using Bikely.com. I have not used Bikely.com before so there was a learning experience figuring out how to get the route to appear.

Link to my ride today.

The wildflowers are starting to bloom and I had my camera.
