About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Arlington TX Considers Adding On and Off Road Bike Trails

Texbiker.net Posted on February 1, 2009 by Rick AnkrumFebruary 1, 2009

from The Fort Worth Star-Telegram
By SUSAN SCHROCK

Making Arlington more friendly for bikers will be considered this year when city officials begin working with a consultant to map out potential routes for on- and off-road bicycle trails.

Though the city doesn’t have money designated for new bike trail systems, the plan will help identify bicycle lanes that could be installed during street repairs and ways to connect those lanes with bicycle trails in parks, Parks Director Pete Jamieson said. The plan will also identify future walking trail routes.

Read Ms. Schrock’s full article.

Shanna Armstrong: Ultra Athlete

Texbiker.net Posted on February 1, 2009 by Rick AnkrumFebruary 1, 2009

I have been reading Shanna’s blog where you details her training and race schedule. She appears to be living in Lubbock but travels to many places to race. She has raced in the RAAM at least twice according to the pictures. If you wan t glimpse in the daily life of an athlete in training follow her blog.

An excerpt from today’s post:

“I went to see Gramps before my mountain bike ride.  I wanted it to be a little warmer.  I got on my bike for a 4 hour mountain bike ride.  I started out feeling great and strong.  i did my warm up loop that usually takes me 18 minutes in about 12.  I then went on to ride all the technical sections that i hardly ever ride.   I rode all of them and did come of the bike some but not much.  i had pretty much rode the obstacle when i came off.  i was just unclipping out of habit.  I was making my motercycle noises and usual sound effects when i came up on some teenagers walking. ”

Later Shanna writes a bout eating a full steak dinner. This is more than I can eat. she must create a supreme appetite.

Visit Shanna’s blog to read today’s post.
