Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Armadillo Hill Country Classic – Liberty Hill, TX

DescriptionRide through broad valleys, over sweeping vistas, and gently rolling hills. Sponsored by Austin Cycling Association, the Armadillo Hill Country Classic is your chance to experience the best that Central Texas has to offer cyclists — at any experience level. Everybody (if you’re among the first 1000 to pick up registration packets) gets one of our colorful Armadillo Classic t-shirts! Featuring nearly every imaginable mileage option from 14 to 105 miles, and plenty of excellent rest stops with experienced, professional SAG support, the Armadillo Classic is your chance to set a new goal and achieve a new personal cycling milestone. New routing and more rest stop support on the 105 mile route. Also noteworthy is the 6.5-mile Kids & Family Ride with a separate starting point in Bertram where kids ride free with a parent or guardian who only pays $15 to ride. Registration for this kid-friendly ride starts at 9 am at the Bertram Municipal Park on Vaughn St in Bertram (see map below) The Kids & Family Ride starts at 10 am. Hot food available for purchase after the ride. One more thing. The showers at the high school gym will be available to you for free.

LBJ 100 Tour – Stonewall, TX

Description“Saddle up” with us on March 28, 2009 (9:00 a.m. start time) for the 2nd Annual LBJ 100 Bicycle Tour. Beginning on the air strip of the historic LBJ Ranch at Stonewall, the tour traverses hilly, scenic, traffic-free roads adjacent to the Ranch. Routes of 10, 32, 45, and 62-miles (100 km.)provide the venue for the premier cycle event in the Texas Hill Country. As an added feature, Luci Baines Johnson leads an additional, special 10-mile historical tour (11:00 a.m. start time), with narration at each of the landmarks on the Ranch – the Texas White House, cattle barn, old school, old homestead, LBJ grave site. This will truly be a “ride to preserve history”. Tour cost is $30.00 until March 14 ($40.00 thereafter) for supported ride, maps, SAG support, rest stops, commemorative bandanna,and t-shirt (to pre-registered riders). Spokes ‘n Spurs – Liberty Hill, TX

Spokes ‘n Spurs is a great Hill Country ride benefiting Spirit Reins! Riders will start at the entrance to the ranch and enjoy a great route with beautiful views, gently rolling hills and the wildlife of the Texas Hill Country. All ages and skill levels welcome. Course distances include 62.5, 44, 28, 14 miles & a 6 mile family ride. Full SAG, Rest Stop and Mechanical support will be provided. We will also have nurses at most rest stops, Motorcycle Special Events Team and BP MS150 ride marshals patrolling the route. Spirit Reins is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization powered by a passion to provide hope and healing to children who need it most through creative, hands-on therapeutic programs in which horses are used as a tool for emotional growth and learning.
