About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Bicycle Lanes Coming to Dallas

Texbiker.net Posted on January 21, 2009 by Rick AnkrumJanuary 21, 2009

from www.the33tv.com

by Norris Deajon

Those lanes are on the way.  Dallas has received a a $375,000 grant from the North Texas Council of Governments to develop something called “complete streets.”  That refers to streets that actually accommodate all sorts of transit, whether it’s cars, bicycles or pedestrians.

The program will mainly focus on bike lanes that lead to bus and rail stations.  Also, bike lanes that lead to the Katy Trail, which is very popular with bicycle riders in Uptown.  The program is modeled after cities like Chicago, Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, British Columbia.

Jane Smith won’t ride her bicycle off the Katy Trail, but she says she might start that with the creation of new bike lanes. ” Yeah, I would.  Of course it still wouldn’t be as safe as the trail.  You know those Texas Drivers,” Smith said.

The Tyler Bicycle Club Works at Faulkner Park

Texbiker.net Posted on January 21, 2009 by Rick AnkrumJanuary 21, 2009

from www.tylerpaper.com

by Malena Olges

The Tyler Bicycle Club is on the path to completing a proposed 5-mile multi-use mountain biking trail at Faulkner Park to be built almost entirely by volunteers.

In August, the City of Tyler signed a memorandum of agreement to allow the bicycle club to build the trail using Faulkner Park land as well as City of Tyler Water Utilities Department land. Volunteers with the project said it will be similar to the trail system at Tyler State Park, which is used for hiking and mountain biking.

Andy’s 2009 MS150 training blog

Texbiker.net Posted on January 21, 2009 by Rick AnkrumJanuary 21, 2009

Andy appears to be in Houston since he mentions Addicks and Bear Creek, two areas on the far west side of Houston. This blog excerpt was posted January 18th. Visit Andy’s blog for the full post.

“fresh meat
6.00 came way too early this morning but at least it was a relatively mild morning.  No sign of the skipper or Dave at the Beltway but another rider came up and introduced himself: Louis from Marketing.  It will be his first MS-150 and he hasn’t put in much saddle time so far this season.  Dave and Paddy soon appear – they’ve already ridden 100 miles this weekend and are ready for more.  Meanwhile Phil back in Blighty has been packing in the miles and getting his hill work done too – we need to find some topography pretty soon if you ask me.”
