About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Robert Hollandsworth Starts A Ride of Undetermined Length

Texbiker.net Posted on January 5, 2009 by Rick AnkrumJanuary 5, 2009

January 1 sounds like a good time to start a bicycle tour, or turn your life around, or, if you’re Robert Hollandsworth, to do both.

Robert started his Cycle for Life bicycle tour from Houston on Thursday and plans to keep cyclo-touring the US with no end in sight. He’ll survive on $200 a month from his family and whatever donations he gets from playing his guitar and tuning pianos along the way.

His trip is no spur-of-the-moment New Year’s resolution. Robert’s been planning this trip for several years with advice from experienced touring bicyclists at the Internet Bicycle Touring List. At his website, he writes:

“Now, after two years of more wishing than dreaming that I could just pedal off into the sunrise and let go of all the ‘issues’ of the past and begin a brand new life, I finally quit my job this month, gave my vehicle back to the bank, made the rounds to see my family for Christmas, and transported my gear to Houston, TX to begin my Cycle For Life Tour.”

Go to www.bikingbis.com for more about Robert and his ride.

January Riding Starts Favorably

Texbiker.net Posted on January 4, 2009 by Rick AnkrumJanuary 4, 2009

Southeast Texas experienced above normal temperatures the last two days. Yesterday I saw 82 degrees on one sign. Normally I average 209 miles during January due to the weather changing dramatically at times. With just four days lapsed I am at 90 miles. With this kind of start I have a good opportunity to meet or exceed the monthly average.

The weather was so warm yesterday I was in my short sleeve Texbiker.net jersey. This makes up for my alma mater not doing so well in the Orange Bowl.

With this said on my ride back home today the wind shifted to the WNW and the temperature started to drop. Now the 77 degrees I had as I started the ride has fallen to 48 degrees. With the weather predicted tomorrow there will not be any outdoor riding tomorrow night.
