About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Houston Light Rail Cars: No in Car Bike Racks

Texbiker.net Posted on December 23, 2008 by Rick AnkrumDecember 23, 2008

from Bikes on Houston’s Light Rail

For over a year, BikeHouston and Citizens Transportation have worked to get bike racks installed on the coming METRO light rail trains, which would’ve made bikes + light rail an unbeatable intermodal combo.

Despite letters from Judge Ed Emmett, all four Republican and Democratic Harris County Commissioners, and other public officials, METRO is going to place orders for the new trains on Christmas Eve 2008… without any in-cabin racks for bicycle. Our contact at the FTA, the funding agency for the trains, is extremely concerned, but FTA cannot compel METRO to order trains with bike racks.

It looks like we’ve failed at this point.

Texbiker.net Posted on December 23, 2008 by Rick AnkrumDecember 25, 2008

Saturday, March 21, 2009, 08:00 AM
Big Thicket Visitors Center
6044 FM 420
Kountze, TX 77625

The SouthEast Texas Hike & Bike Coalition promotes safe cycling across the region, and one of our most exciting family events is coming up later this year. The 5th Annual Big Thicket Bike Tour is scheduled for Saturday. March 21, 2009.

The money that SETHBC raises from the tour will be used to expand our educational and safety programs.

We hold children’s bicycle safety rodeos throughout the Golden Triangle.

One of our most important safety principles is that everyone – adults and children – should wear a helmet at all times when riding.

Adult Registration is $30 until 2/28 and $35 thereafter, Family Registration is $75 until 2/28 and $85 thereafter
