About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Cooper Cycling Completes 6 Hour Race at Dallas

Texbiker.net Posted on December 20, 2008 by Rick AnkrumDecember 20, 2008

from Second Front blog

by Brendan

Cooper Cycling completed the Los Aguantes de Seise winter race put on by the Dallas Off-Road Bicycling Associations (DORBA) As the name translates, this was a six hour endurance race. Kirk and I finished 12th and 21st in the 40+ category. We had a lot of fun. Unlike the Ultracentric race we entered individually so we could get our 6 hours of exercise in one continuous effort.

The 35 mph winds were not a factor because the trail is wooded and temperatures were in the 50’s. I completed about 50 miles and Kirk completed about 60 miles of single track sweetness.

The 12/15 “Frozen Chosin” commute

Texbiker.net Posted on December 20, 2008 by Rick AnkrumDecember 20, 2008

from Bicycle Commute Houston

by Sirrus Rider

Sunday night it looked like Monday morning would be nice mild 65° weather so I decided to go ahead and commute in. First problem, although I checked the weather on weather.com I was not aware that a cold front was moving in. So even though I checked it throughout the morning up until I left I did not see any dramatic change being shown. In fact, the afternoon temperature was supposed to be 75° and the overall forecast was assuring enough that I did not feel the need to bring warmer cycling clothing. I wore what I normally wear which would be hot weather gear in any other climate.

El Paso Puzzler: Toughest race in Texas???!!!

Texbiker.net Posted on December 20, 2008 by Rick AnkrumDecember 20, 2008

from Big Dave’s Blogging Adventures

Big Dave says on his blog, “That’s what this guy thinks about the Puzzler.  I haven’t yet tried to do the entire 50 yet, but the 35 mile loop is a killer.  I usually include a ride to and from the trailhead when I do it, so that adds an hour.   What’s scary is that the big climb is at the end of the 35 mile loop and the additional 15 mile loop is freakin’ slow.  It’s so techy that it may be a cause for concern on race day.  I’ll be doing my best to evaluate everyone who makes the time cut before they head out for  the final loop.”

Review: Doug Fattic Framebuilding Class

Texbiker.net Posted on December 20, 2008 by Rick AnkrumDecember 20, 2008

Elliott writes about his experience at austinbikeblog.org

Taking a two week intensive frame building class was just that, intense. Spending 8-12 hours a day working on one project in isolation allowed for quick learning, but also the days ran together in a blur.

Now that I’m back in Austin with my normal routine, Doug’s workshop in Niles, Michigan seems like a distant memory. However, I’ve received a certain confidence in my ability to not only build a frame but do handy work in general that I didn’t have just two week ago. Overall, it was a good experience and a well done class. I’m glad I went.
