About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Dennis Starkey Blogs About the Northshore in Grapevine

Texbiker.net Posted on December 13, 2008 by Rick AnkrumDecember 13, 2008

I have an older mountain bike that I won from Carrier on a point system for selling oem parts. This bike was junk, it weighed about 40 lbs and had worthless brakes and a couple of springs they called a suspension.

I got an early Christmas present when this GT Mountain bike went on sale and I had a 20% off coupon. It is the Avalanche 1.0 hydraulic disc brake. I rode it around for a few days and decided to try out the North shore Trails 9 mile out and back route. The bike is so much nicer than what I have been riding on the trails, if money was no object you can get a lighter better bike, but this would be hard to beat for the price I paid.

Visit Dennis’s blog for for more about his ride and some pictures.

Mansfield High School Students Give Bicycle Helmets for Christmas

Texbiker.net Posted on December 13, 2008 by Rick AnkrumDecember 13, 2008

By Ashleigh Whaley

Nearly 450 children in and around Johnson County will receive bicycles and tricycles at no cost this Christmas because of the fundraising efforts of Mansfield high school students.

Ben Barber Career Tech Academy’s automotive students raised $20,933 to purchase bicycles and tricycles in this year’s Bikes for Angels program, said Rick Curlee, automotive coordinator and professor at Ben Barber.

On Tuesday, Curlee and students gathered in a 200 foot by 180 foot shop at Ben Barber filled wall to wall with bicycles and tricycles to celebrate the community’s generosity.
