About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

BikeTexas Executive Director on 2009 State Legislature

Texbiker.net Posted on December 10, 2008 by Rick AnkrumDecember 10, 2008

BikeTexas continues to work for “bicycle access, safety and education”, as we have for 17 years, with your support and hard work from scores of board members, volunteers and staff.

…Many of you are aware that the Texas legislative session begins in January. Our first of two priority legislative goals is the passage of a new and improved Safe Passing Bill.

…The second legislative goal is “Two Cents for Texas Trails“. Many beginner, intermediate and veteran cyclists would ride more often if a great network of hike and bike trails were available. Over $4 billion of pathways are planned but not funded in Texas.

Fit Skeleton Rides the Holidaze Marathon

Texbiker.net Posted on December 9, 2008 by Rick AnkrumDecember 9, 2008

by Dave Campbell

“This is the furthest that I’ve ventured outside of Austin. Camp Eagle is located in a town called Rocksprings which is a little over three hours from home. (Rocksprings is about an hour and a half past Fredericksburg in the heart of Hill Country.) Camp Eagle is also a Christian-based adventure camp. The Holidaze Marathon is part of the TMBRA (Texas Mountain Bike Racing Association) Mountain Bike Marathon Championship Series. Camp Eagle hosts this event every year.”

Arundel Bicycle Co. Cycles Forward

Texbiker.net Posted on December 9, 2008 by Rick AnkrumDecember 9, 2008

from The Fort Worth Business Press

BY ELIZABETH BASSETT

Chris Watson had worked with the staff at Richardson Bike Mart for years. As a sales representative for bicycle companies, he was familiar with their buyers and their clientele, and when he approached them about a new product — a carbon fiber water bottle cage for racing bikes — the buyer wanted to know how many of the items could be made per week.

Watson thought about the manufacturing, which was done in a friend’s carbon fiber plant. All of the cages were hand-made by David Bradfield, Watson’s partner in the Arundel Bicycle Co., which they had just founded with a third partner.

Dallas Bike Plan to Be Updated

Texbiker.net Posted on December 9, 2008 by Rick AnkrumDecember 9, 2008

from the Cycle Dallas blog

The Regional Transportation Council (RTC) has programmed $300,000 in Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP) funding for an update of the City of Dallas Bike Plan. The Dallas Bike Plan was originally approved by the City Council in 1985 and has had only minor route updates since its adoption. The RTC endorsed the use of regional funding because it wants to use the Dallas Bike Plan update as a model for other North Texas cities to develop and implement bicycle plans.
