About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

MTB Law Girl Rides Rocky Hill Ranch

Texbiker.net Posted on November 2, 2008 by Rick AnkrumNovember 2, 2008

According to her blog, MTB Law Girl, lives and rides out of Austin. On November 2nd she wrote an extensive account of her riding at Rocky Hill Ranch near Smithville.

Her account begins, “Over the last couple of months we have explored trails that are south – southwest of town so we decided to explore the east side yesterday. We ventured out to Rocky Hill Ranch which is located in Smithville, about an hour + drive from Austin. There’s 25 miles of mountain bike trails, a cafe, and camping. Based on what we’ve heard, it’s basically a mountain biker’s paradise where you can ride all day, camp out and ride all day again”

TxDOT Will Review Seal Coat Process

Texbiker.net Posted on November 2, 2008 by Rick AnkrumNovember 2, 2008

I missed this news from biketexas.org on October 3rd. I do not know any rider who relishes riding on a road with the “chip seal” coating TxDOT is overlaying on many roads.

from www.biketexas.org

Texas cyclists statewide, to our collective frustration, have watched over the years as more and more miles of smooth surface on favorite routes and loops have disappeared under a concoction of rock and oil, leaving an uneven, jarring surface and loose gravel that stays on the road for months. Known to cyclists as “chip seal” but to transportation engineers as “seal coat,” it is infamous among cyclists for causing dangerous riding conditions that have led to crashes and damaged tires.

The cycling community has been abuzz with excitement since officials announced that Austin’s Lance Armstrong had registered to ride in the two-day Tour de Gruene Bicycle Classic.

The Texas cycling legend is expected to compete today and Sunday in and around Gruene, near New Braunfels.

Cyclists lined up at Bike World in San Antonio on Thursday to pick up their racing numbers and T-shirts. They talked about the chance to compete with the seven-time Tour de France champion.

“It’s great for the area, great for the biking community, to have Lance come and ride with us,” said 50-year-old Chris Price, who was with his 8-year-old son, Liam.
