About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

from The Huntsville Item online

By Jay Ermis

The third annual Raven Bicycle Ride is set for Nov. 8 and early registration for the fast-growing event is Saturday.

Raven Ride co-director John Amick said the ride was originally scheduled for Sept. 27, but was rescheduled because of Hurricane Ike.

The ride is the sole fundraiser for the Huntsville Lakers and Huntsville High School swim teams.

Route 281, San Antonio to Dallas

Texbiker.net Posted on October 20, 2008 by Rick AnkrumOctober 20, 2008

from mtblawgirl.blogspot.com

By Peter Olsen – Special to the Express-News at MySanAntonio.com

I told my friend I was going to ride my bike from New Braunfels to Dallas.

“That’s nearly 250 miles,” he said. “You can’t be serious. I-35 is a nightmare. Do you have a death wish?”

“No,” I replied. “I’m riding up Route 281 through the Hill Country.”

“There’s another way to get to Dallas? I never thought about that,” was his reply.
Route 281 from San Antonio to Dallas parallels I-35 much of the way with a few big differences: There’s less traffic and it traverses the heart of the scenic Hill Country.

BTU Power Pedal MTB Results

Texbiker.net Posted on October 20, 2008 by Rick AnkrumOctober 20, 2008

from www.mtbracenews.com/

The BTU Power Pedal took place last weekend in Bryan, Texas. Normally the Bryan race has a lower turn out, but the TMBRA fall series has been cut shorter this year due to hurricane Ike. The Huntsville Classic on September 21st was cancelled this year because of flooding. Since the series is only a few races to begin with, and Huntsville was cancelled, many races showed up to Bryan for a long awaited race.

Although the course conditions were dry and favorable for a fast race and the temperature was only up to the mid 80’s, this course isn’t one of the favorite for racers. The Bryan race is 95% flat with lots of twisty sharp corners.

Riding their bikes to the Ride for the Roses

Texbiker.net Posted on October 19, 2008 by Rick AnkrumOctober 19, 2008

Twenty-three bicyclists whose lives have been touched by cancer will set off from Greenville, South Carolina, on Sunday (10/19/08) to ride the 1,500 miles to Austin by Thursday.

The cyclists are on five teams that will ride relay-style with the help of 16 support personnel. Together, the members of the Challenge to Conquer Cancer have raised $160,000 for cancer research.

Once they get to Austin, they’ll register for the Ride for the Roses LiveStrong Challenge on Oct. 24-25.
