About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Ken Hoffman (Houston Chronicle): Sign up early for the MS 150

Texbiker.net Posted on October 6, 2008 by Rick AnkrumOctober 6, 2008

Registration for the wildly popular but space-limited MS 150 charity bike ride from Houston to Austin will open precisely at 10:15 a.m. Oct. 15.

That’s an odd time to open registration, but it’s the least of your problems. Just do it, so you don’t get shut out.

If you want to ride, click on www.ms150.org. It will cost $100 to register, and you have to promise to donate at least $400 more to the Lone Star Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Charity.

It only took 11 days for the 2008 ride to fill up.

Read Ken’s column in the Houston Chronicle for his thoughts about the route and the Corpus Christi ride last week end. Link to ken’s column

Bicycle Commuter Act Passes House, Senate

Texbiker.net Posted on October 6, 2008 by Rick AnkrumOctober 6, 2008

I don’t know whether to be glad or sad. The passage of this act was tied to the financial rescue package. This act was part of the pork barrel spending that was attached to the rescue package.

from ppolnews.com

“The Bicycle Commuter Act was added on to last week’s bailout bill and will provide a $20 tax credit per month to employers of bike commuters. The credit is intended to go toward adding provisions for bike commuters, like racks and locker rooms, for those who decide to go car free. However, many are decrying the act because it is part of an assortment of pork added to the bailout that some find frivolous–other items of which include tax credits for NASCAR track owners, film companies, and manufacturers of wool clothing.”
