About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

10 Best Places to Ride Around Austin

Texbiker.net Posted on October 3, 2008 by Rick AnkrumOctober 3, 2008

from the Austin American-Statesman

By Pamela LeBlanc

I’ve ridden all 10 places that made the list. The first place winner — the Barton Creek Greenbelt — comes as no surprise. The Greenbelt, which snared 21 percent of the vote, is right in town and packed with challenging terrain. You can hop on at the trail head near Barton Springs Pool and pedal for miles, crossing streams, clattering through fields of “baby heads” (grapefruit-sized rocks) and generally hammering your spine while you try to stay on your bike. It’s a back-to-nature fix in the middle of the city.

I prefer the park road linking Bastrop and Buescher state parks, but that’s just me. (It also depends if I’m looking for a mountain bike route or a road bike route.)

BikeTexas Kids Kup at Palo Duro Canyon

Texbiker.net Posted on October 2, 2008 by Rick AnkrumOctober 2, 2008

from biketexas.org

by BikeTexas Field Instructor Durwood Mayfield

As Saturday, September 27 dawned bright and crisp, temperatures hovering near 50 degrees, my granddaughter Brooke and I found ourselves heading north from Lubbock toward Palo Duro Canyon State Park. This is undoubtedly one of the most striking of all the state parks in Texas, a rare beauty on the flat plains of the northern panhandle, with stunning vistas and stark contrasts to the surrounding country. But we aren’t going just to see the grandeur of the Grand Canyon of Texas; we are going to participate in the future of bicycling in Texas – the BikeTexas Kids Kup mountain bike race, one race of the Shimano Youth Series mountain bike races, sponsored by BikeTexas, Shimano and Cliff Bars.

Byron de Sousa, former BikeTexas Safe Routes to School Outreach Coordinator

Texbiker.net Posted on October 2, 2008 by Rick AnkrumOctober 2, 2008

from biketexas.org

On Saturday, September 27, Texas cyclists lost a great friend and advocate as Byron de Sousa, former BikeTexas Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Outreach Coordinator, passed away at age 59 after a long battle with prostate cancer. Born in Brazil but later becoming an American citizen, Byron made Fort Worth his home for the last 17 years. Those who knew him valued his kindness, intelligence and readiness with a joke. We at BikeTexas will miss Byron greatly.

The MountainbikeTx.com website is a good resource for what is happening for mountain bike riders in Texas.

The goal of MountainBikeTx.com is to be the most up-to-date source of information for trails and parks, local bike shops, and associations/clubs throughout Texas.

The link is in the news category in the left sidebar.
