About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Bikers pedal through Portland during Sunset Challenge

Texbiker.net Posted on September 21, 2008 by Rick AnkrumSeptember 21, 2008

from the Corpus Christi Caller Times

By Mike Baird

CORPUS CHRISTI — Tate Turany, 9, planned to “pedal his brains out” on his green and yellow John Deere bicycle Saturday in his first bike ride event.

The Taft fourth-grader and his stepbrother Hunter Murdock, 11, hoped to finish 12.5 miles and “not fall out,” said their parent, Stephanie Turany, 35.

“I’d just like to get in better shape,” the banker said as she snapped her helmet chin girdle moments before the air horn start.

They were among about 200 people ages 8 to 76 who pedaled through Portland in the first Sunset Challenge Bike Ride.

from www.star-telegram.com

By RICKY TREON

In less than a week, Cleburne will welcome the Woodstock of bicycle racing.

That’s how event coordinator Dan Driscoll describes the Texas Time Trials, which hit the city of under 30,000 starting Thursday night at the Mineral Baptist Church and ending Saturday evening. Driscoll says with the collection of people, the places from which they come and the atmosphere that surrounds the race, there’s just no better way to put it.

Bicycle film fest comes to Austin

Texbiker.net Posted on September 20, 2008 by Rick AnkrumSeptember 20, 2008

from www.austin360.com

Austin’s bike culture comes in many forms. It congregates at coffee shops in the twilight of weekend mornings as cyclists, clad in spandex and sporting multithousand-dollar machines, ride out to the rolling countryside. Bike culture is espoused by solo explorers traversing the Barton Creek Greenbelt aboard knobby-tired mountain bikes. It defines Austin cool, roving the town on fixed gears, searching for the hippest new hangout. Bike culture rolls up its pant leg and rides from home to work, then back.
