About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Lubbock residents gather for Tour de Tech Terrace

Texbiker.net Posted on September 20, 2008 by Rick AnkrumSeptember 20, 2008

from www.dailytoreador.com

A whistle on a rooftop started a mass of bicyclists on a 10-mile journey through Lubbock’s Tech Terrace neighborhood Saturday.

Tour de Tech Terrace, a Texas Tech tradition, brought nearly 500 cyclists to the corner of 30th Street and Hartford Avenue, the first of 10 stops at 10 backyards along the 10-mile route. At each stop, participants opened up their backyards for the group to stop and socialize along the route.

Texbiker.net Posted on September 20, 2008 by Rick AnkrumSeptember 20, 2008

from the Dallas Morning News Online

By JOE SIMNACHER / The Dallas Morning News

Don’t fret – the sight of a bicycle stuck on the front of a DART bus soon won’t be a bad thing.

By New Year’s Eve, 650 Dallas Area Rapid Transit buses are expected to offer bicycle commuters greater convenience. The agency’s new bus-mounted bike racks also represent an option for people who live or work beyond easy walking distance of a mass-transit stop.

New Mountain Bike Category System from USA Cycling

Texbiker.net Posted on September 19, 2008 by Rick AnkrumSeptember 19, 2008

from www.sicklines.com

USA Cycling announced today the development and implementation of a new mountain bike category system set to take effect for the 2009 season. The modification to the existing structure comes after significant analysis and dialogue by the national governing body and the National Off-Road Bicycle Association (NORBA) Board of Trustees.

In pursuit of its mission to provide a high-quality racing experience for members across all ages, skill levels and genders, USA Cycling will apply these new categories beginning December 1, 2008 in order to strengthen professional fields and add depth to amateur categories at the grass roots level.

Off Line Due to Ike

Texbiker.net Posted on September 19, 2008 by Rick AnkrumSeptember 19, 2008

Ike told me to take a hike so I have not been able to update the news. As of this afternoon at 4:50 we got electrified so I can now attempt to catch up with the bike news and events. One thing I did check on, unlike when Rita visited East Texas this year’s Pineywoods Purgatory Ride October 4th is still on. I plan on riding. Look for me in the new Texbiker.net jersey.
