Drivers Don’t Like Us
Today’s Houston Chronicle includes Dale Robertson’s Cycling Notebook. Some of the quotes from drivers makes you think there is a war out there on the roads. While I have had incidents with drivers they are few and far between. Reading the Cycling Notebook makes me wonder if I am in denial.
For instance, from Dale’s column:
Jim Meader, a commercial contractor, civic activist and “admitted redneck car guy†in Pattison, said he and his fellow citizens are “flat fed up†with cyclists who “clog our roads, shut down commerce, violate private property, use our school campuses without permission, overtax our emergency services, cause the elderly undue stress†and, in short, “act like they own the damn place.
I am glad I have not met Jim while I am riding!

Conquer the Coast ride to Roll on Smoother Times
from the Corpus Christi Caller Times
Organizers of the fifth annual Conquer the Coast ride expect 2,000 bicyclists on Sept. 27, plus an ingredient missing last year the local cyclists group that helped originate the event.
The South Texas Area Runners, Riders and Swimmers did not help with the ride last year because of a dispute with the Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce after the chamber trademarked the event.
