About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

TxDOT installing four bicycle awareness signs

Texbiker.net Posted on July 24, 2008 by Rick AnkrumJuly 24, 2008

from mineralwellsindex.com

By Lacie Morrison

It was probably a more unusual day at the “office” for one Texas Department of Transportation crew Wednesday morning as a small audience watched them post a sign on Farm-to-Market Road 4. The large yellow sign sported the image of a bicycle.

“Woo hoo!” exclaimed Iris Stagner, the driving force behind getting bicycle signs posted on the section of FM 4 known to cyclists as Cherry Pie Hill, located between Palo Pinto and Santo.

Allen TX to Improve Trail System

Texbiker.net Posted on July 24, 2008 by Rick AnkrumJuly 24, 2008

from allenamerican.com

By Jon Vanderlaan, Staff Writer

While Allen is not a destination for cyclists, the city is attempting to make its trails and roads more cycling-friendly.

Two plans, the Six-Cities trail and Regional Veloweb plans, are in place to connect trails in Allen to trails in other cities.

The Six-Cities trail plan, according to the Allen city Web site, www.cityofallen.org, will connect trail systems from Plano, McKinney, Richardson, Frisco, Garland and Allen to create an more broad network of trails. The plan will take several years to complete.

Lara Rodriguez, a spokesperson with the North Central Texas Council of Governments, said the council has taken the place of being an over-seer to the Six-Cities Trail plan as well as the Regional Veloweb trail plan n a plan to connect Tarrant, Denton, Dallas, Collin, Rockwall, Kaufman, Johnson, Ellis and Parker counties.
