About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

from kvue.com

By SHELTON GREEN, KVUE News

A church and a cycling community are coming together early Sunday morning for a memorial bike ride honoring a slain cyclist.

Michael Argall, 45, a cycling coach, Travis County Sheriff’s employee and Air Force veteran, was killed June 28th on U.S. 290 in Fredericksburg.

The woman who hit him told investigators the sun got in her eyes and she couldn’t see him.

Bike and Cars

Texbiker.net Posted on July 18, 2008 by Rick AnkrumJuly 18, 2008

Eric Jackson of BikeDFW writes in the Dallas Morning News online

Bicyclists are on the streets to get to work, go to the store, see a movie, get exercise, visit family and friends and for all of the same other reasons as motorists. In addition, gasoline is over $4 per gallon; the region risks federal sanctions if we don’t improve our polluted air; and mass transit is moving forward, and is a great thing, but is a long way from being able to serve a majority of the North Texas residents.

Tyler Cope Rides Coast to Coast

Texbiker.net Posted on July 17, 2008 by Rick AnkrumJuly 17, 2008

By Michael D. Hernandez / El Paso Times

Tumbling headfirst over the handlebars was not how Eastsider Tyler Cope pictured the beginning of his trek across the country, but there he was June 2, sprawled out on a California highway, scraped up and his cycling helmet cracked but intact.”Day 1 was probably the hardest part,” Cope, 21, said about cycling uphill for dozens of miles away from the ocean, then crashing. “It was just like a big mental game that I had so much riding against me. If it was day after day like that, I really didn’t know if I could do it but, after a little while, all that got me stronger.”

Brothers Bike from Canada to Mexico, Stop in Brownsville

Texbiker.net Posted on July 17, 2008 by Rick AnkrumJuly 17, 2008
By Jasmine Ulloa, The Brownvsille Herald

Surya and Giri Markala are pedaling more than 3,000 miles from Toronto to Mexico City in an effort to raise HIV/AIDS awareness, a project they call AIDS Bike Ride 2008.

The duo has already braved the northern part of the trip in little more than a month and reached Brownsville Tuesday night. They will cross the border into Matamoros this morning to continue south.

But Surya and Giri aren’t your likely cross-country cyclists.

Originally from southeast India, the brothers have no professional biking experience and are paying for the trip out-of-pocket.
