About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

May Riding Mileage Report

Texbiker.net Posted on June 2, 2008 by Rick AnkrumJune 2, 2008

With the warming weather and less rain, May was a good bicycling month. Some of my riding statistics:

  • 555.29 miles for the month
  • Most miles in a week this year: 176.71, week of May 26th
  • Days that I rode: 16
  • Average miles per ride day: 34.7
  • Total year to date miles through May 31st: 2087.45

I did no organized rides during May. This was influenced by the driving distance to the rides and the price of gasoline. All the miles are on the road, no mountain bike riding this month. Highlight of the month: discovering FibreOne Oats & Carmel bars. Two of these on a 60 mile ride are fantastic!

Local bike shop caters to recovering gas guzzlers
BY ELIZABETH BASSETT

Panther City Bicycles, which opened in March 2005, sells a full range bike accessories and bicycles, all of which require zero gas. What they do require, though, is someone with an interest and a desire to learn about cycling, whether for slow tours around the neighborhood, grueling races or commuting to work, said Jason Magby, proprietor.

“The cool thing about this job is it’s not about need, it’s about want, Magby said.

Runner, swimmer, cyclist and camper Sandy Monson also is a nature enthusiast who enjoys encouraging people to live a fitter lifestyle outdoors.

“Running is freedom, she said. “The thing about trail running is that you’re in nature. In the fall there are so many different colors and in the winter it’s quiet, there’s leaves all over the trail and you feel you’re a thousand miles from nowhere.

Monson recently landed her dream job, when she was named executive director of Wichita Falls Streams and Valleys.
