About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

While many people spend Saturday mornings lounging in bed, a group of men and women known as the Texas Flyers Cycling Club breaks out the spandex for a ride through Denton County.

The Texas Flyers started as a race group that sponsored competitive riders. But a few years ago, the club switched its focus to recreational riding, says club president Renee Massengill, 39.

Austin looks to obtain bike league ‘gold level’

Texbiker.net Posted on April 29, 2008 by Rick AnkrumApril 29, 2008

from The Daily Texan Online

The city of Austin is hoping to boost its bicycle-friendly level to gold status, as designated by the League of American Bicyclists.

Austin, which climbed to a silver level in 2007, is the only Texas city to receive an award by the league. Austin City Council members approved a resolution Thursday to upgrade the city’s bicycle network to attain a gold level.

“We are number one, and we don’t want to be number two,” said Councilwoman Sheryl Cole.

The League of American Bicyclists determines bicycle-friendly levels by the amount of engineering, education, encouragement, enforcement and evaluation a community puts into planning its bicycle network.
