About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Crank Brothers’ New Wheelset

Texbiker.net Posted on April 12, 2008 by Rick AnkrumApril 12, 2008

I spotted this soon to be available wheelset in VeloNews. While wheels are the essence of the bicycle I have not seen a set with this look. The blue color and the spoke system look unique to me. These are not cheap; $1,000 for the set. You can reserve a set today with an April 30th release date.

Have You Used Tubular Tires Yet?

Texbiker.net Posted on April 11, 2008 by Rick AnkrumApril 11, 2008

If you have not used tubular tires (I haven’t) but want to learn more about them VeloNews.com has a four part video tutorial that should bring you up to speed.

  • Part 1: Tools, preparation & removing the old tire
  • Part 2: Cleaning the rim & stretching the tire
  • Part 3: Prepping the tire and applying the glue
  • Part 4: Mounting the tire to the rim

T.J. Jones: The Man Behind the Scene at Sun & Ski Sports MS150 Team

Texbiker.net Posted on April 11, 2008 by Rick AnkrumApril 11, 2008

Susan Farb Morris provided this to me:

T.J. not only rode in the very first MS 150, he rode in the first FIVE MS 150s.  As Sun & Ski Sports Corporate Bike Coordinator, he makes sure that the 300-person Team Sun & Ski rides smoothly, so he’s not able to ride in the event.  However, he does serve on the executive committee of the National MS Society Lone Star Chapter MS 150 Bike Shops.

T.J., who lives with his wife, Carla (also an avid cyclist) in NW/Cypress area, used to be a USC Federation road racer and a mountain bike racer.  He is known statewide for his expertise in fitting cyclists on their bicycles. He estimates he rides 125-150 miles per week.  This includes evenings as well as weekends.  He has cycled in the Texas Hill Country, Utah (Moab), Northern California/Napa and Sonoma Valleys, Lake Tahoe, Pacific Coast Highway and Colorado.  He is past Ride Director of the Texas Hill Country River Region Classic, a 100-mile ride in Garner State Park area.

Last July 4th, T.J. celebrated his 50th birthday, where else, but on a bicycle!  His birthday is the 4th of July and he and Carla rode the Triple Bypass, a one-day trip that covers three mountain passes in Evergreen, Colorado!
