About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Leakey Death Ride – Leakey, TX

Texbiker.net Posted on March 23, 2008 by Rick AnkrumMarch 31, 2008

Friday, ride from Bandera to Leakey, about 60 miles.
Saturday is a one hundred mile loop out of Leakey.
Sunday, ride from Leakey back to Bandera by an easier route.

All rides offer sag support and wonderful food, and a massage therapist is often available. Route maps are available online at Eddie’s Map Page. The event is centered at the Frio Pecan Farm. The food will be served there and the activities will be centered there.

You will need to make your own lodging reservations in Bandera and Leakey. Bandera Lodge, 830-796-3093 or 800-796-3514 (Thursday night) and Frio Pecan Farm, 830-232-5294 or 877-832-0674(Friday and Saturday night) are the most popular. Available rooms for thursday night rooms are usually plentiful.

Katy Ram Challenge, Texas Prairie and Skunks

Texbiker.net Posted on March 22, 2008 by Rick AnkrumMarch 31, 2008

The Katy Ram Challenge began at the Katy Mills Mall outside of the Sun Ski Sport store. Looking over the crowd and noticing numbers during the ride I estimate between 1565 to 1800 riders were on the roads north of Katy. The rest stops were full. The third one was short on sport drink when I got there. Rest stop 5 actually had two flavors of sport drink to choose from. I took the orange. The Vanilla Wafers were a nice switch.

Lancaster Country Ride – Lancaster, TX

Texbiker.net Posted on March 20, 2008 by Rick AnkrumMarch 31, 2008

Make plans to enjoy a fabulous day of Texas springtime cycling in the luscious and calm countryside south of Dallas! For the 10th consecutive year, the Greater Dallas Bicyclists, together with the City of Lancaster, is staging the Lancaster Country Ride on Saturday, April 12, 2008 at 9 am. Lancaster is a mere 15 minutes from downtown Dallas.

Join us as we cycle through the scenic countryside of Lancaster and surrounding areas. The routes traverse a variety of terrain, from flats to rolling hills, with a few challenging climbs. Rest stops every 10 or 12 miles with water, sports drink and fruit. The wildflowers are in full bloom in April and our routes feature picturesque meadows with dense concentrations of Bluebonnets, Indian Paintbrush, and other colorful spring flowers.

Mileage options: 23, 42 and 63 miles staggered start for safety. We have scouted and ridden the routes to ensure smooth roads and scenic countryside for all bicyclists to enjoy. The 42 and 63 mile options take you directly through the Bluebonnet Trial on beautiful and hilly Sugar Ridge Road.
