About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Roll Aid Coast to the Coast – Fort Worth, TX

Texbiker.net Posted on February 4, 2008 by Rick AnkrumFebruary 4, 2008
David Hill is organizing a 6-8 man, 7-day loaded tour traveling 450-500 miles from Naval Air Station Fort Worth, past Fort Hood, to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, then to Beeville and Naval Air Station Corpus Christi. We expect to absorb more riders along the route. We will hook up with the Wounded Warrior Project Soldier Ride in San Antonio and accompany them on their community rides to Corpus.

We’re calling our tour the Roll Aid Coast to the Coast.

The idea is to raise awareness for the Woundedwarriorproject.org Soldier Ride, which was created to provide adaptive biking equipment to severely-wounded veterans. If you haven’t heard about it, or seen the images of young men and women with 1, 2 or even 3 prostheses riding bicycles in a group, you may not know how hard it would be NOT to do something to help.

Our ride leaves Fort Worth on March 9th, and gets to Corpus on the 16th.  Our route falls between US 281 and I-35 to San Antonio.
I’d like to connect with other bike clubs and shops along the route to get route advice, or have some people ride along for as far as they like.  We would also really appreciate some advice on where we could camp or stay along the route.

We have a blog here, where people can offer advice or coordinate meeting up to join our tour http://soldierride.blogspot.com/

DF posters with more information can be downloaded here

Please also learn all about the Soldier Ride, here: https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/index.php/WWP-Soldier-Ride.html

West End Ride – Keith Burgess-Jackson

Texbiker.net Posted on February 3, 2008 by Rick AnkrumFebruary 3, 2008

Keith gives a brief rundown on the ride in Dallas on Super Bowl Sunday.

Link to his blog.

"Every Super Bowl Sunday since at least 1990, Metroplex bicyclists have ridden to Dallas’s West End from various departure points. Today was my 16th West End Ride in the past 19 years. (I had the flu a year ago; the other two times, I wimped out.)"

Carbon belt drives are standardized

Texbiker.net Posted on January 28, 2008 by Rick AnkrumJanuary 28, 2008

The future drive scene might be coming together. According to bikebiz.com the top belt manufacturers have agreed to standardize the size specifications. The carbon belt has started to gain exposure as a replacement for the drive train.

From the article:

The four main Poly Chain players meet to agree standard width and pitch

It could have been Blu-Ray versus HD DVD, Betamax versus VHS, or a width replay of the 19th Century Gauge War between Brunel versus Stephenson.

Instead, heads have been banged together and the fledging synchronous Chain Drive market will now operate to a width of 10mm and a depth of 11mm. Transmission multi-national Gates of the US has been working with Orange in the UK and Carbon Drive Systems of the US, an off-shoot of Spot Bikes. The US Gates factory was producing carbon-corded belts in a different width and pitch to the UK Gates factory.
