About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Tour de Fire Ant – Marshall, TX

Texbiker.net Posted on October 1, 2007 by Rick AnkrumOctober 1, 2007

If you can’t beat ’em, make fun of ’em. That’s the idea at the annual Fire Ant Festival in this Piney Woods town, where goofy events include a fire-ant-calling contest and ugly-face-making contest. There’s a parade, chili cook-off, dominoes tournament, Tour de Fire Ant Bike Race (100K, 10-mile, 30-mile and 45-mile bicycle tours), as well as a 5-K run and plenty of live music and food. More from www.marshall-chamber.com or 903-935-7868.

Tour de Donut – Katy, TX

Texbiker.net Posted on October 1, 2007 by Rick AnkrumOctober 1, 2007

The Tour de Donut is a unique bicycle race where riders embark on an appetizing 28-mile journey beginning at the Katy Mills Mall (in Katy, Texas of course!) with rest stops along the way serving as many delectable donuts as you can eat.

For EACH tasty donut that a rider consumes, the rider is awarded a tempting 5-minute time credit.  Eat enough delicious donuts, and you can finish the race before you even started!  In addition to this mouth-watering challenge, riders can also ride the 55-mile course (also starting at the Katy Mills Sun & Ski Sports Store in Katy, Texas) which is an BP MS 150 recommended Ride.

And yes, there are donuts for this route as well!!!

The Chamber of Commerce and some members of the local bicycle club that founded Conquer the Coast have collaborated for some new races, some honoring the club’s fallen leader.

Donny Kloster, former president of South Texas Area Runners, Riders and Swimmers, died July 28 during a morning ride after colliding with a pickup.

More than 125 club members will kick-start the event today with a memorial lap of the Criterium to honor Kloster.

Cyclist will race with bike of legend

Texbiker.net Posted on September 29, 2007 by Rick AnkrumSeptember 29, 2007

from the Corpus Christi Caller-Times (full article link)

As Daniel Ruidant tackles a 65-mile bicycle ride a week before he turns 60, he’ll have some inspiration from a five-time Tour de France winner.

In his debut Conquer the Coast ride Saturday, the downtown hairstylist will churn the pedals of a nearly 27-year-old Italian-made steel-tube bicycle given to him by five-time Tour de France winner Eddy Merckx.

"I’m antique," said Ruidant, stroking his pencil-thin mustache. "The two antiques go together, and it’s never too late to achieve something."
