About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Competitive cycling without leaving home

Texbiker.net Posted on September 8, 2007 by Rick AnkrumSeptember 8, 2007

from news.com.com

Now, U.S. cyclists can get trounced by some of the best riders in Europe without leaving home. With the Ergo Bike Premium 8i from Germany’s Daum Electronics, riders from around the world compete against each other over virtual versions of some of the sport’s storied race courses. Riders gather at a particular time, pick a course and go. In a ride I witnessed, riders from Germany and a few Americans went head-to-head on a simulated version of the bike segment of Hawaii’s Ironman Triathlon.

from The Valley Morning Star (full article)

By CLARISSA MARTINEZ/VALLEY MORNING STAR

Edward Robinson saw the countryside of France in August, by bicycle and in 88 hours. Robinson, 43, an attorney in Harlingen and a San Benito resident is a randonneur — a long-distance cyclist — who completed the 1,200-kilometer race from Paris to Brest and back to Paris. The race began at the southwestern side of Paris and covers 600 kilometers to the port city of Brest on the Atlantic Ocean and returns along the same route.

Survivor rides to raise funds for cancer awareness

Texbiker.net Posted on September 7, 2007 by Rick AnkrumSeptember 7, 2007

From The Brownsville Herald (full article)

By VICTORIA MANNING, THE BROWNSVILLE HERALD

Buddy Boren had not ridden a bike since he was 17, but that didn’t stop him from riding one for good cause.

After surviving a tough battle with skin cancer, the 64-year-old Dallas resident wants to be an inspiration to cancer patients, encouraging them to stay strong in the face of the disease.

Boren spreads his message by riding a bicycle across Texas and the United States. He embarked on his sixth ride Wednesday. Departing from Brownsville, he plans to arrive in Darrouzett, Texas in two weeks — taking him from the southernmost part of the state to the northernmost.
