About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

HHH route packs own punch

Hotter’N Hell Hundred Executive Director Roby Christie said one of the most frequently asked questions about the Ride is what the 100-mile route is like.

He said although the route might not be as hilly as some Texas rides, it does have its share, and when you combine that with intense heat and sometimes intense wind in August, it can be a challenging course.

Downtown Lufkin will be invaded by bikers Sunday morning as cyclists push their pedals toward the pavement to compete for a state championship and a good cause.

Sponsored by the Adoption Center of East Texas, the 2007 Charlie Hall Memorial State Age-Based Criterium Championships has secured a State Division I age-based championship after two successful years as a Division III criterium, said John Jones, spokesman for the Angelina Bicycle Club, in a club press release.

Hall helped establish the first Lufkin bike club while mentoring many Lufkin cyclists, and completing many 100-mile events.

Is This Too Texan?

Texbiker.net Posted on July 20, 2007 by Rick AnkrumJuly 20, 2007

By DENISE GAMINO Austin American-Statesman (full article)

AUSTIN — Anyone can steer a bicycle in the typical manner, with chrome handlebars hardly worth a second glance.

Then, there are those who take things way too literally. They feel the need to steer a bicycle with a steer, or at least the part of a steer that, with a squint of imagination, sort of looks like handlebars.

These people ride around Austin on funky bikes gripping longhorn steer horns.

There are not yet enough of these longhorn bicycles to make a herd, but a definite ripple of delight tickles those who catch a glimpse.

“Some people take pictures,” said Jon Williams, a master carpenter and contractor whose horn handlebars are so long he can’t ride his bicycle on the sidewalk. “The ladies like it.”

“That’s good steering,” others yell.
