About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Firecracker 100 – Stephenville, TX

Texbiker.net Posted on June 15, 2007 by Rick AnkrumJune 15, 2007

All routes will start and finish at Tarleton State University (TSU). Start Time – 8:00 a.m.

All routes are on US Highways, Farm to Market Roads and well-maintained, paved County Roads. The routes are the same as the last few years except for a few areas where improvements have been made. Erath County roads consist of “ups” and “downs”. Most of the hills are not too long, but you’ll find some that go on for a while! And there’s even an occasional flat stretch, but they are few and far between. 10/26/43/62 mile routes.

What Do You Eat After A Ride?

Texbiker.net Posted on June 15, 2007 by Rick AnkrumJune 15, 2007

In the late 80’s one of my fellow bike riders proclaimed Pop Tarts the perfect ride food. He looked at the calories and fat content with the ease of use from the individual sleeve for each serving. I think this was before energy bars came on the scene. Also around that time The League of American Wheelmen fielded letters with the ideal formula for GORP. GORP was the name of granola, raisins and peanuts. (I can’t remember what the “O” was for.) I even took GORP on my very first century ride.

Then Wednesday I saw this article at Medical News Today: “Study: Cereal Aids Recovery After Exercise – Breakfast Cereal And Milk May Be Better Than Sports Drink”. Whole-wheat cereal with non-fat milk beats sports drink in my book as well. At rides they always have the worst tasting drink. I think they clear out whatever is overstocked.

If you read my bike tips page you will learn that one of my take-along snack for rides is animal crackers. Low fat and low priced. What else do you need to ask for?

A news article online today at the Houston Business Journal:

Bike Barn has acquired ACME Bicycle Co. and now operates six stores in the greater Houston area.

Bike Barn, which is Houston’s largest independently owned bicycle dealer, acquired the Katy-based retailer’s 15,000-square-foot retail center located at 629 South Mason Road for an undisclosed sum.

This is the first time I spotted Keith’s blog. Two rides in the DFW area were the focus of his writing. Blog link.
