About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Two Wheeling Conservation

Texbiker.net Posted on May 26, 2007 by Rick AnkrumMay 26, 2007

The Houston Chronicle Business section has a front page article on Houston oil companies encouraging employees to ride their bicycles to work.

Exxon Mobil, BP and ConocoPhillips are among the Houston-area employers trying to make it easier for employees to bike to work.

Workers already have enough excuses: potholes, impatient drivers and the Houston heat.

But some businesses are easing the commute for those who decide the exercise and reduced emissions make biking worthwhile. They’re giving them locker rooms, shower areas and safe places to park their bikes.

I would like to join this movement but my work place is 42 miles from my home.

Rip Roarin’ Ride – Liberty Hill, TX

Texbiker.net Posted on May 25, 2007 by Rick AnkrumMay 25, 2007

Welcome to the 6th Annual Liberty Hill Lions “RIP ROARIN’ RIDE”, one of the most scenic routes in Texas. You will experience the Texas Hill Country in a unique way, with lovely vistas, gorgeous valleys with century-old oaks, and crystal-clean, spring-fed creeks. You may get a glimpse of a fox, a flock of wild turkeys or a red tail hawk, and, of course, our white-tail deer.

Starting at Liberty Hill High School on Highway 29, this sixth annual ride for charitable purposes will take you through scenic rolling hills and valleys of Williamson and Burnet counties on routes of 14, 28, 47, 63, 77 and 100 miles. There will be great rest stops, fantastic food, super SAG support and friendly people. Riders will start at 8 A.M. – none after 9 A.M. – and must clear the course by 4 P.M. You’ll finish back at Liberty Hill Middle School, next to the High School where you will enjoy free food, cold drinks and entertainment.
